This second trailer to Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island shows more details without the plot twists. I have read the book by Dennis Lehane and it appears that Scorsese is following the book pretty well. The story covers psychiatric crimes and abuse, which is a bold and truthful move by both the author and director. The movie arrives in theaters February 2010.
This might be one of the biggest newsy bits we’ve had in quite some time, folks. In fact, given who’s involved and what’s at stake this is a huge development.
The studio, at last report, is planning to move the movie Shutter Island from its original release date until sometime in 2010. The reason given was due to the economy, but whether or not that’s the real case, no one knows.
Here’s the kicker: Shutter Island is a big name for a lot of reasons. The first of which is its lead actor, Leonardo DiCaprio. The second? Its director is none other than the legendary Martin Scorsese. The first ever Martin Scorsese horror movie ever…got delayed a year. Due to the economy.
Can anyone really imagine a Martin Scorsese movie tanking? How about a Leo DiCaprio? Put them both together and this should have spelled box office gold. But why the delay? Perhaps, is there something worse than the economy afoot? Is something seriously wrong with ShutterIsland?
Sadly, we don’t know. But keep it here–you never know what we’ll find tomorrow.
After seeing this trailer and knowing what this movie is about, I am very excited about Shutter Island. Martin Scorsese has nailed the evil of a psychiatric facility.
The trades are buzzing about Martin Scorsese bringing Frank Sinatra to the silver screen.
Scorsese has signed with Universal Pictures and Mandalay Pictures to direct and produce Sinatra. If anyone is a fan of Scorsese or Sinatra, then you know Scorsese has long played with the idea of creating biopic on singer-actor Frank Sinatra.
Now, the trades are speculating Leonardo DiCaprio as an obvious choice to play Ol’ Blue Eyes because he has become Scorsese’s go-to actor over the past decade, having starred in the director’s past four features: Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed and the upcoming Shutter Island. Most of the music in the film will come from Sinatra’s recordings.
Personally, I’d like to see someone else take the role. Who? I am not sure. There are a lot of up and coming actors who’d do the role justice. Sam Worthington is a good choice because he looks like Frank Sinatra. Plus, he’s a talented actor.
Project marks the first silver screen movie to be made about the Hoboken, N.J., native, whose life provided continual fodder for the gossip columnists because of his turbulent love affairs, infamous friendships with notables like President Kennedy and possible Mafia ties.
It will be interesting to see how the casting pans out.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Michael Pitt is in final negotiations to star opposite Steve Buscemi in Boardwalk Empire, an upcoming HBO drama.
The series is based on Nelson Johnson’s book that chronicles the 1920s origins of Atlantic City. It will center on Nucky Johnson (played by Buscemi), a businessman who runs a liquor distribution ring at the onset of Prohibition. Pitt plays Jimmy Darmody, a young WWI veteran, a low-level flunky for Nucky who wants to quickly climb to the top.
The pilot is being helmed by famed director Martin Scorsese, who is also serving as executive producer with Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson and Winter.
I Heard You Paint Houses, a book about the mob assassin who many believe was involved in the death of Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa, is set with Martin Scorsese to direct and Robert De Niro to play Frank “the Irishman” Sheeran, who is reputed to have carried out more than 25 mob murders.
According to Variety, the movie title refers to mob slang for contract killings, and the resulting blood splatter on walls and floors. Book was written by Charles Brandt, who befriended Sheeran shortly before the latter’s death in 2003. Among the crimes Sheeran confessed to Brandt, according to the 2004 book, was the killing and dismemberment of Hoffa, carried out on orders from mob boss Russell Bufalino.
Talking to Variety, Robert de Niro revealed that he would still like to do two sequels to The Good Shepherd despite the film’s failure at the box office.
Niro additionally said that he and Martin Scorsese still hope to produce films about the CIA’s history and the character of Edward Wilson played by Matt Damon.
While the first film ran from the early days of WWII to the Bay of Pigs incident in 1961, the second is expected to run from that point through to the fall of the Soviet Union and the Berlin Wall in 1989. Meanwhile, the third is expected to deal with events from 1990 till the present.
Niro and Scorsese are currently working on a secret project aimed for release sometime next year.
