Making a name for himself as the “remake director”, Marcus Nispel is set to helm the upcoming Conan the Barbarian remake. He is known for doing the remakes of Friday the 13th and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, both of which were – let’s be honest here – travesties of the originals.
The Conan remake will begin production later this year in Bulgaria and South Africa. Nispel hopes to blend his childhood imaginings of the character with the influence of the famous Conan illustrations by Frank Frazetta and visceral violent films such as Apocalypto.
While it is pretty much confirmed that Arnold Schwarzenegger – who starred in the 1982 original – won’t be appearing, it can be a safe bet that there will be lots of violence and scantily clad women. Both are winners in my book!

Having handled Jason in Friday the 13th, director Marcus Nispel is in talks to helm The Last Voyage of Demeter for Phoenix Pictures.
It will be based on a chapter in Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”, describing the arrival of the vampire count in England on a cargo ship that has crashed into the rocks at Whitby with no crew and the dead captain lashed to the steering wheel. The story is told through the captain’s log of the voyage, which gets increasingly disjointed as the crew starts disappearing.
The story has been adapted by Robert Schwentke. Production on the film is set to begin later this year.

Best known for helming the horror remakes Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the upcoming Friday the 13th, director Marcus Nispel is already making plans to do two more films.
First up is the cloning thriller Immaculate Conception which follows a pregnant girl who doesn’t know why she’s pregnant. However, she later finds out that a splinter group of the church found a rusty old nail in the hills of Golgotha and they have harvested the DNA they believe is from Jesus Christ, and that she is part of their experiment.
The second film is entitled Pod and will explore the seven levels under Manhattan. As expected, they find out something dark and sinister below the busy city.
