Weekend Box Office Estimate arrived early this morning. It looks like James Bond took the lead with Daniel Craig kicking, hitting and shooting his way through the bad guys in Quantum of Solace. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa held its own in second with Role Models in third.

I am not surprised that Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa moved it to first place for the Weekly Box Office standings. Role Models came in a raunchy second and High School Musical 3: Senior Year sang and danced in third.
James Bond is coming to the scene with Quantum of Solace, which should prove interesting against Madagascar. Overseas the Bond movie scored big time. For domestic sales, your guess is as good as mine . Only Sunday will tell.

Just off the heels of huge opening of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa Chris Rock is partnering with Sidney Kimmel Entertainment and Sony’s Screen Gems to rework the 2007 British comedy Death at a Funeral.
Rock plans to produce, co-write with Aeysha Carr and star in the black comedy.
The original feature was written by Dean Craig and directed by Frank Oz.
According to Hollywood Reporter, the ensemble comedy will take place in an urban American setting and centers on a funeral ceremony that devolves into a debacle of misplaced cadavers, indecent exposure and family secrets. The cast will be primarily black, supplanting the earlier, England-set version’s British cast.
A director hasn’t been nabbed yet, but plans are to start production in the spring.
Here is an estimate of the movie box office weekend. Not surprisingly, Madagascar Escape 2 Africa came in first with a wild $63,500,000. The rest of the movies pretty much sunk in the sand with Role Models in second and the ever popular High School Musical 3: Senior Year in third.

Not surprisingly High School Musical 3: Senior Year topped the box office this week with Zack and Miri Make a Porno in second. I am happy to see Changeling in third and The Secret Life of Bees still in the top ten at seventh place.
I am sure HSM 3 will “I like to move it, move it, move it” down with Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa opening this weekend.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Jeffrey Katzenberg revealed that at least one additional Madagascar sequel, along with a Kung Fu Panda sequel, is in the works at Dreamworks Animation.
He called Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, the second film in the series, the “second chapter in one story… there is at least one more chapter… we ultimately want to see the characters make it back to New York.”
The second Madagascar movie opens November 7.
