As tempted as I am to bust out “what is this I don’t even” in the description of my reaction to the news about the upcoming adaptation of Freaky Monday, I’m going to try and refrain from obscure references. Because frankly, this thing’s obscure enough all by itself without me adding a further cloud of obfuscation on top of it.
So here’s the deal–most of us know Freaky Friday, that goofy Disney cruise where the mother and daughter briefly switch places in a bizarre astronomical phenomenon that is neither very well explained or makes much sense. Anyway, the duo spend a while swapped until they gain some perspective on each others’ lives or some such–it’s not like I watched it–and now, they’re going to tackle the sequel. It’s called Freaky Monday, and the swap is not between a mother and daughter, nor a father and son if you guessed that, but–and brace yourselves, because this is like the new gold standard for sheer WEIRD–a girl and her English teacher.
No, seriously. And before you ask, no, I have no idea when it’s coming out yet, but when I do, so will you.
Has Robert Rodriguez lost his mind? Even I’m beginning to wonder and you know that cinematic weirdness is my bread and butter.
So it was just a couple days ago when I filled you in on the startling addition of Lindsay Lohan to the cast of Machete. Well, I just got an updated cast list, and frankly, I’m just baffled. Take a look at this list and tell me if you see ANYTHING wrong here: Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Steven Seagal, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson and Jeff Fahey.
For those of you wondering, no, I never believed I’d live to see the day when Robert De Niro shared the screen with Lindsay Lohan. Or Steven Seagal. And after the slow painful death of Nash Bridges I NEVER believed I’d see Cheech and Don together again.
Don’t even get me started on my puzzlement at the sudden reappearance of Jeff Fahey, either. Guy’s been doing TV and one-shots since 2007–and this is his first feature in nigh on three years.
I’ve got to admit, if Machete didn’t have my interest before (which it did, but only in a limited sort of way) it definitely does now. I am all locked into this sucker now and eagerly await its reappearance.
Momma always warned me my sinful ways were going to catch up with me, o my readership, and they certainly have today. Guess who, I find, is going to be appearing in the upcoming Robert Rodriguez grindhouse special, Machete?
Those of you who said “Paris Hilton”, NO, you clever, clever readers you. But what I’ve got is almost as entertaining. It’s LINDSAY LOHAN!
Seriously! La Lohan herself is going to be showing up in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete. At least, that’s at last report–the IMDB still has her credit as “rumored”, so it may or may not be accurate. In a way, this is kind of a sweet idea. Lindsay’s career has been on the slow slide to nowhere for the last couple years, pretty much ever since her breakup with Samantha Ronson and of course her go-round of I Know Who Killed Me. That canard would kill anyone’s career.
This may, however, be the start of a turnaround for her, maybe even a shot at scream queen status. How it works, though, we’ll have to wait to find out.
Lindsay Lohan nabbed a starring role in the independent fantasy comedy The Other Side along with Woody Harrelson, Giovanni Ribisi, Dave Matthews and Alanis Morissette.
The story follows a grad student who obligated to spend the summer working at a scientific institute on an isolated island. She discovers an eccentric community of characters who are hiding a secret about a tragedy that took place many years before.
Variety reports that production is set for October at an island off the coast of Massachusetts.
After big names like Miley Cyrus and Lindsay Lohan, don’t be surprised if the next star is a Blatz! Well from all indications, Kelly Blatz is being built up as the next star for Walt Disney. Quickly creating buzz, the California native comes out of the hit-making machine that catapulted Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers and the High School Musical cast to fame and stardom.
If all goes as planned, the Walt Disney Company will package 21 year old Kelly Blatz into a marketing machine that extends across the company’s many platforms, from film and television to merchandise and music.
Today he can be seen playing the title role on the new network’s flagship series Aaron Stone. A former Starbucks barista, Blatz also has a leading part in a much larger role: to attract male tweens to a network tailored to their tastes.
Until February’s XD launch, there was a relative shortage of programming designed specifically for the 18 million male tween viewers in the USA. It’s a powerful piece of the younger population to not fully attract: Internationally, the age group, usually defined as kids 6 to 14, injects an estimated $50 billion into the economy.
Later this year, Disney XD will serve up still more tween boy talent. The 16-year-old newcomers Hutch Dano and Adam Hicks star in a documentary-style comedy, Zeke & Luther. The pair will play best friends who have set their sights on becoming the world’s best skateboarders.
Two very high profile casting rumors regarding the upcoming remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street have both been quickly shot down.
First up was the report that Lindsay Lohan had been casted as the lead lady. Producer Brad Fuller has said to HitFix that the story is not true at all and that Andrew Form did not comment on the story, adding that the included quotes were not his.
Later, Latino Review reported that Watchmen actor Jackie Early Haley was the front runner to play Freddy Krueger. Fuller shot this down, too, adding that “we’re not even negotiating with anyone yet.”
I listened to the Lindsay Lohan’s new single “Bossy” from her upcoming album due this fall.
“Bossy” would be great song as part of a spinning class routine at your local gym – it’s rather irresistibly rhythmic. Take a listen from YouTube and leave your comments.
