The Open Road trailer doesn’t due justice for Jeff Bridges or Mary Steenburgen, two really awesome actors.  The story is a heartwarming comedy about minor leaguer Carlton Garrett (Justin Timberlake) who takes an unexpected road trip to track down his estranged father, legendary baseball player Kyle Garrett (Jeff Bridges) when Carlton’s mother (Mary Steenburgen) becomes majorly sick and asks her son to find Kyle.

In the trailer it’s hard to see the comfort Bridges usually portrays in is characters.  I have a feeling that this is just a lousy trailer.  Or Bridges character grows on you like Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow in the original Pirates of the Caribbean.

Timberlake who hasn’t done enough films to justify carrying a film looks good as Carlton who enlists his on-again-off-again girlfriend Lucy (Kate Mara) for emotional support.

The movie is a road trip film that includes a series of misadventures caused by his father’s antics, including missed flights, car trouble and bathroom brawls. Years of miscommunication, frustration and comically awkward attempts at bonding come to a head as the mismatched trio make their way from Ohio back home to Houston to reunite the family.

I just hope we get to see a lot of Steenburgen.

glant_article From The Hollywood Reporter comes word that Warner Bros. has shortlisted three stars for the role of the titular superhero in Green Lantern: Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake.

The trio beat out Michael Fassbender, Henry Cavill and Jared Leto for the final list; all of them performed two rounds of screen tests. Apparently, the producer Donald De Line, director Martin Campbell and the studio each have a favorite among the final three, which is why a consensus hasn’t been reached yet.

Even more interestingly, the holding deal on all three actors expired on Monday, meaning they are now free to hook up to other projects, so making a casting decision is an urgent matter for the project.

The film will follow Hal Jordan, a hot-shot Air Force pilot who is inducted into an intergalactic police force called the Green Lanterns. It is scheduled to begin production by the end of the year for release in summer 2011.

Justin Timberlake is Moist

01-justin-timberlake-400a032707 MTV News reports that director Barry Sonnenfeld is looking at pop artist Justin Timberlake to be the possible lead star of Moist, his upcoming dark comedy.

The film will be based on the novel by Mark Haskell Smith, following a morgue attendant who comes across a severed arm with an erotic tattoo of a woman he falls for. In trying to figure out who she is, he ends up becoming the kingpin of the Los Angeles Mexican mafia, replacing the man who the severed arm belonged to in the first place.

Sonnenfeld had previously tried to get the movie up and running but fell through due to financial issues. He is now actively talking to studios once again about the project.
