Iron Man partners in crime Jon Favreau and Robert Downy Jr. may work together in Cowboys & Aliens.

Favreau is very interested in corralling this picture deal as director with DreamWorks and Universal overseeing the project. The project has Downey attached to star with a hope of starting in the summer of 2010.

Obviously, based on the title, the film is set in the Old West.  Cowboys and Native Americans battle each other in Arizona when a space ship crashes and a new enemy force makes the battle  majorly different with new technology beyond the wild frontier.

The film is based on a graphic novel of the same name that was published in 2006. The sale of the film idea came from, not the whole novel, a one-sheet of a cowboy and a space ship.

Of course, Favreau and Downey will work on Iron Man 3, but Iron Man 2 needs to open May 10, 2010 first.

iron-man-2-casting-callNo, really. He DOES.

Folks, in case you’re not currently aware, the first five minutes of Iron Man 2 have been leaked to the internet.  And director Jon Favreau would really like you to watch and give him some feedback on his Twitter.

I caution you, the footage is not that great–it’s on YouTube and it’s in very much bootleg condition.  But the director seems happy about this.  It’s kind of odd to think of a director as being happy about a leaked bootleg, but considering that it’s footage from a convention, it’s not really that much of a leak.

However, I can say this much.  Based on the footage that I’ve seen so far, this ought to be a really, REALLY awesome movie.  If you weren’t already looking forward to Iron Man 2–and chances are, if you saw Iron Man, you were looking forward to Iron Man 2 about five minutes before Iron Man ended–you should be after seeing this footage.

And this may have been the point all along.

What happens when a superhero’s true identity is revealed?  In Iron Man 2 we will explore that according to director Jon Favreau. The photo is from USA Today’s article on the sequel where Favreau talks about the next Iron Man. ironman2x-large

kate-mara-picture-1Kate Mara (Zoom) and Clark Gregg (500 Days of Summer) are the latest to join the cast of Iron Man 2, which is currently filming.

Gregg returns to his role as Agent Phil Coulson of SHIELD. Mara’s role is currently being kept under wraps.

The film is currently shooting at Manhattan Beach in California. Jon Favreau returns to the director’s seat.

It looks like Mickey Rourke finally closed a deal to play the Russian villain in Iron Man 2. mickeyrourke

Apparently the negotiating was a bit strained when Marvel Entertainment offered The Wrestler star only $250,000 for his first major studio film in years.

My guess is that Rourke’s salary is much better than that now.

According to Variety, Rourke’s encounters with Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. on the awards circuit sealed his participation in the film. Rourke won the Golden Globe and was Oscar nominated for The Wrestler and Downey got Golden Globe and Oscar nominations for Tropic Thunder, so Downey used each occasion to recruit Rourke.

As the story goes, when Downey, Rourke as well as actors including Frank Langella and Anne Hathaway took part in a roundtable discussion with Newsweek’s David Ansen, Downey interrupted the proceedings, reached across the table and flat out asked Rourke to do Iron Man 2.

And then, Rourke met with Jon Favreau and scribe Justin Theroux and got to be part of the development of his character. He’ll play Whiplash, a character that includes elements from that comic book villain and Crimson Dynamo, another Russian baddie.

Robert Downy Jr. playing Sherlock Holmes excites both his fans as well as Sherlock Holmes aficionados. He truly gets under the skin of his characters.  Watching behind-the-scenes footage from Iron Man DVD Special Features proves his professional talent.

Now, he’s confirmed for two Marvel Studio projects. Of course, Iron Man 2 but also is set to star in The Avengers. Jon Favreau who is set to direct the second Iron Man picture will also exec produce The Avengers, which is set for a release date of July 15, 2011. The picture includes the Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and the Incredible Hulk characters.

It’ so funny that Marvel has not confirm until now whether Downey or Favreau were back for Iron Man 2 even though both have been forthcoming about their plans for the sequel, which will bow May 7, 2010.  The film earned $578 million worldwide.  I believe that is enough reason to confirm any major deal right away.

News travels fast because what I am about to report was posted a two film sites. This weekend at a recent press junket for Soul Men; Samuel L. Jackson confirmed he was asked to be in Iron Man 2.

Jackson said he spoke with the director, Jon Favreau, who told him he was in the sequel.

No word, though, on who, what or how the role would be, but Jackson joked about making sure he gets a contract after what happened to Terrence Howard.

Couples Retreat is set with cast deals finalizing, as I write this post, which goes into production in October.

Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman and Faizon Love are set to star in the comedy.

The story takes the paths of four couples who travel to a tropical island resort . One of the couples arrive at the resort to solve their marriage problems while the other three are ready to frolic on the island; but find out couples therapy is not optional — typical psych mumbo jumbo.

Apparently the idea for the story came from Vaughn and Favreau scripted the movie.

The Iron Man DVD launch was an event to be seen, with director Jon Favreau sitting down with an army of online press to talk about the upcoming sequel.

He revealed a lot of information, but here are the major ones:

  • All major actors from the first film are set to come back.
  • The third (possible) film will be based on the “Demon in a Bottle” storyline.
  • “War Machine” may make an appearance in the sequel.
  • The ‘Mandarin’ villain may appear behind-the-scenes in the sequel and will most probably show up in the third or fourth film.
  • While Favreau wants to include links to Hulk and Captain America, he is not so sure about Thor.
  • Iron Man’s armor may be updated for the sequel.

There’s more information to be had. Read the whole transcript of the interview for more.

jon_favreau_iron_man_movie_image Following months of back-and-forth speculation, Deadline Hollywood Daily reports that director Jon Favreau has reached a deal with Marvel Studios to oversee Iron Man 2, the insanely successful sequel to the alcoholic superhero movie.

Robert Downey Jr. is onboard thanks to the fact that there was a sequel clause in his contract. The inclusion of Terrence Howard and Gwyneth Paltrow are yet to be confirmed.

The sequel is targeted for release on April 30, 2010.
