Javier Bardembardem_javier_02 is discussing with Columbia Pictures to star in Eat, Pray, Love, the Ryan Murphy-directed adaptation of the Elizabeth Gilbert memoir.

Bardem signs on with Julia Roberts and Richard Jenkins in the cast.

As far as Variety reports, Roberts plays the author, and Bardem will play Felipe, the man Gilbert meets and falls in love with on the final leg of a journey of self-discovery that began with the end of her marriage.

Richard Jenkins plays a Texan whom the heroine befriends at an Indian ashram.

javier_bardem The upcoming Wall Street sequel will focus on the recent financial crisis, mixing it with weddings, cake and, of course, comedy. Keeping that in mind, Javier Bardem has joined the cast of the upcoming sequel by Oliver Stone.

The film sees Michael Douglas return as Gordon Gekko; Shia LaBeouf plays a young trader engaged to marry his daughter. Gekko sees the financial crisis coming, but is focused on his estranged daughter and her upcoming nuptials. Meanwhile, Bardem will play a hedge fund manager whose dealings have caused the suicide of LaBeouf’s mentor.

Filming begins this August for release in February 2010.

I just posted earlier today that Sean Penn is thinking about starring in the movie Cartel.

I just found out that hot Spanish actor, Javier Bardem, is also taking a look at a role in the same film. Rafael Castillo, a wealthy but righteous DA, who wants to put the cartels away. Castillo shunned his rich family for the law.

It will be interesting to see how the casting of Cartel plays out.

The winner is Mike (16) — congratulations.

In this humorous love story, the vibrant Spanish city of Barcelona becomes a place of passion – following two young American women who are seduced by a local artist. The unusual circumstance, however, is instantly complicated when his fiery ex-wife makes her way back into his life and interferes with his new relationships.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona is another cinematic gem from Oscar winning writer and director, Woody Allen. The film highlights Golden Globe nominated performances from Oscar winner Javier Bardem, (No Country For Old Men), Oscar nominee Penelope Cruz (Volver) and Rebecca Hall (The Prestige). The fantastic cast is also rounded out by co-stars Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation), a four-time Golden Globe nominee, and Oscar nominee Patricia Clarkson (Pieces of April).

It seems that hit HBO show Entourage is rather prophetic in its satire. Just like Vince Chase’s Medellin project, it seems that reality’s attempts to make a film about the insane exploits of Columbian drug baron/philanthropoligist Pablo Escobar is fraught with difficulties also. Javier Bardem, who would have been perfect for the role, has dropped out of the adaptation of Killing Pablo. Bardem would have starred alongside Christian Bale as Major Steve Jacoby.

Director Joe Carnahan has, however, found a replacement in actor Edgar Ramirez, best known for his role in The Bourne Ultimatum, as the assassin Paz, and also for Vantage Point. But here’s where is gets confusing. It’s well know that two Escobar films are in production at the moment, the other being Escobar, produced by Oliver Stone and directed by Antoine Fuqua. But IMDB has Ramirez playing Escobar in the latter, and not Killing Pablo. This has been known foe sometime. Is it a case of wrong information, or has Ramirez been whisked away to the bigger film?

Escobar and Killing Pablo both aim to see a 2009 release.

bardem1.jpg I am sorry to hear that Javier Bardem has left the “Nine” and will not take on the lead role of Guido Contini in the musical that Rob Marshall is directing.

The musical focuses on Contini, a film director who experiences personal and creative crisis trying to balance all the women in his life.

Though it’s been clearly reported that Bardem loved the script and the idea of working with Marshall, he pulled out because he is exhausted from work and awards season, and will take as long as a year to recharge his batteries. Wow!

The rest of the cast is hanging in there: Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard and Sophia Loren. Also, Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench are in negotiations to join the rest of the cast soon.

According to Variety, Bardem was ready to make the film late last year, but “Nine” got postponed, along with several other high profile projects, because it needed refinements to the Michael Tolkin script that weren’t possible because of the writer’s strike.

Bardem will next be seen in Woody Allen-directed “Vicky Christina Barcelona,” which debuts  at the Cannes Film Festival.
