Morgan to pen Bond

26948059 Get your pen and paper ready to write some hate mail (or love mail, whichever you choose), as it is now official that The Last King of Scotland scribe Peter Morgan has been hired to write the script for the next James Bond film.

Fortunately, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who have helped co-write every Bond film since 1999, remain in place to work alongside Morgan.

Morgan will start work on the film once he wraps up work on The Special Relationship and Hereafter. A date for the start of production for the film is yet to be set.

Seems like their casting decision has paid off, as Daniel Craig seems to pull in audiences all over the world as the new James Bond. Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures today announced that Quantum of Solace, the twenty-second James Bond film, has taken in over $167.1 million to become the most successful film of the franchise in North America. It surpasses the $167 million record previously held by Casino Royale. The film is still playing in 891 theaters in the United States.

Additionally, Solace has raked in another $382.9 internationally, with the Japanese market yet to be tapped. The film, with a worldwide gross of $550 million, trails just behind Casino Royales $594.2 million.

A fan of James Bond? If you’re like me, then you’ll smile when you read this info. We just received a tip here on Screenhead that 21 James Bond movies are now available in HD. For the first time ever, you can catch you favorite spy in all his movies all through Nov. 30 through Comcast On Demand. For those who already knew about this, this is probably old news, but for those of us who didn’t know it yet, this is totally awesome!

What’s even better – there are lots of cool extras including two documentaries and some good stuff from the new movie Quantum of Solace. Check out this YouTube clip for more details on the Bond films.

The more I see of this film the more excited I am about this film. Daniel Craig is just too good.

There’s been a slight amount of backlash regarding the latest James Bond film, due out in November. Not only is its title, The Quantum of Solace, unappealing to the ear (and rather confusing), but the official Bond song has not lived up to expectations. Entitled Another Way to Die, it was written and performed by Jack White and Alicia Keys. Some fans aren’t quite happy with the results, and I can understand why. White and Keys don’t seem to mix well, and the duo seems like a deliberate marketing strategy to capitalise on both the rockers and the pop fans, but diluting the qualities of each, and pleasing few.

So, for your consdieration, here are two alternatives. Above is Adam Buxtun’s theme tune, concerning itself with Bond’s interest in just a quantum, and no more, of solace. Below is Joe Cornish’s response, which seems like an apt summary of the reinvented Bond. Adam and Joe used to present the amusing late night UK sketch show The Adam and Joe Show, and now host their own show for the UK’s BBC Radio 6, which is well worth checking out.

“You don’t have to worry about me.” This is an actioned packed movie, which makes James Bond unbelievable — Awesome! Daniel Craig holds his own with action packed adventure.

In the next James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, a mission leads James Bond (Daniel Craig) to Austria, Italy and South America. He uncovers the villain Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric) conspiring to take total control of one of the world’s most important natural resources.

Greene is forming a deal with the exiled General Medrano (Joaquin Cosio). Using his associates in the organization, and influencing his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene pledges the conquest of the existing regime in a Latin American country, giving the General control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land.

In a high explosive game of treachery, murder and deceit, Bond collaborates with old friends in a battle to uncover the truth.

As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper – the woman he loved and lost by a fatal murder in Casino Royale –, 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M (Judi Dench), to unravel Greene’s sinister plan and stop his organization.

jack_white In more Alicia Keys news, it has been announced that she and Jack White of The White Stripes will sing the theme song for the next James Bond movie Quantum of Solace. It will be the first duet theme song in the twenty-two film series.

Titled "Another Way to Die", the song has been penned by White who also plays drums on the track. The soundtrack will be released October 28, with the film opening in theaters November 7.

Amy Winehouse and Leona Lewis were previously rumored to be the singers for the song.

In the forefront, U.S. recording artist Alicia Keys may sing the title song for the next James Bond movie, “Quantum of Solace.”

Reportedly, Beyonce, Leona Lewis, Duran Duran, Jack White, Duffy and Annie Lennox are some of the other performers who submitted songs for consideration to producers of the film, which stars British actor Daniel Craig as the maverick-turned-suave secret agent.

Official announcement hasn’t occurred yet but on the news lines it’s being reported that “Alicia is the winner.”

James Bond hits the theaters November 2008.

Quantum of Solace trailer looks awesome.  It seems M still has her hands full with Bond bent on revenge. I love the soundtrack.
