I read at First Showing that Christian Bale is set to star with Mark Wahlberg in Prisoners. Now the Hollywood Reporter is saying the same thing, but more of a speculation, with the fact that Bryan Singer is interested in directing the film, though, it’s not official yet.
A Bale and Wahlberg movie would drive the financing and fast track production easily; especially if Singer comes aboard, too.
The script is pretty awesome as well. Small-town carpenter’s 6-year-old daughter and her friend are kidnapped; he comes head-to-head with a young, arrogant detective in charge of the investigation. The father is a Bible-reading, deer-hunting survivalist. The cop drive, basically, is to get to the city. Feeling failed by the law, the father captures the man he believes responsible and begins to torture him in a desperate attempt to find out what he did with the girls, whom he’s convinced are still alive.
The story, casting and direction speculation means a great opportunity for all three to have sure fire hit.
The first event to honor Asian talent aged 35 and under will kick off in HongKong on March 13 as announced by the Hollywood Reporter. The Hollywood Reporter’s inaugural Next Gen Asia special issue will profile the achievements of these ambitious innovators. The Next Gen Asia inaugural party will take place on March 24th, during the 33rd Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF), at the trendy new W Hong Kong in Kowloon.
Over the past 15 years, THR’s Next Generation initiative has recognized over 500 individuals in the American entertainment industry, many of whom have gone on to become highly influential in their respective fields — production, acquisition, representation, programming, finance, music, new media, marketing and talent. Next Gen alumni include such now-familiar names as Andrea Wong, President and CEO of Lifetime; Ben Silverman, Co-Chairman of NBC; and Stacey Snider, CEO and Co-Chairman of DreamWorks.
Selected annually by a committee of The Hollywood Reporter editors and reporters, the Next Generation list is not intended as a power list, but rather as a way to introduce the media and entertainment communities at large to the industry leaders of tomorrow.
Among the 20 professionals being honored on the first Next Gen Asia list is BoA. Already an Asian phenomenon with over 20 million records sold, THR identifies BoA as the next global pop wonder to watch.
Variety and Hollywood Reporter speak favorable of this movie, What Doesn’t Kill You, starring Mark Ruffalo and Ethan Hawke. Brian Goodman’s directorial debut movie was well-received at Toronto as well, and now is looking at coming to theaters late this year.
Screenhead reported that Natalie Portman was cast as the lead in adaptation of Emily Bronte’s classic novel, “Wuthering Heights.”
However, reportedly Portman has left the production per the Hollywood Reporter. This leaves some random financial problems and other pre-production woes.Â
Harry Potter is Broadway bound – well – sort of.Daniel Radcliffe, the icon of “Harry Potter” movies, makes his Broadway debut on Sept. 5 in the play “Equus.” Radcliffe plays the stable boy who is blinded by six horses and appears undressed on stage.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Radcliffe earned rave reviews for his performance in the London production. He also received loads of media attention for appearing naked onstage — a departure from his wholesome image as the bespectacled boy wizard in the big-screen adaptations of J.K. Rowling’s best-selling fantasy novels.
Richard Griffiths, who portrays Harry’s mean Uncle Vernon in the “Potter” movies, reprises his London role as the psychiatrist who treats the stable boy who has blinded six horses.
“Equus” begins previews Sept. 5 for a limited 22-week run at the Broadhurst Theatre.
I came across this fascinating article at Hollywood Reporter about Laura Ramsey’s preparation for her role as a belly dancer in “Whatever Lola Wants.”
The article called “Actress Ramsey opted method approach” tells of something more than just a way to prepare for a role, but more of what it takes to be a professional in a very competitive and demanding field.Â
Ramsey went all the way to Cairo and Casablanca to learn belly dancing and live the life of a belly dancer. The end result nothing but pure out-of-body experience — all inhibitions gone.
Please take a look at this piece and let me know your thoughts.
