Not surprisingly High School Musical 3: Senior Year topped the box office this week with Zack and Miri Make a Porno in second. I am happy to see Changeling in third and The Secret Life of Bees still in the top ten at seventh place.

I am sure HSM 3 will “I like to move it, move it, move it” down with Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa opening this weekend.

HSM 3 to Get Singalong Version

What, with Highschool Musical 3 topping box offices and all, you didn’t think Disney would stop there, did you? Ok, good because they have recently announced that they will be releasing a singalong version of the movie to theaters across the country (125 to be exact) this Friday.

This marks the first time that Disney has released a singalong version of a movie nationwide. But just imagine being in the movie theater with all those singing children… sounds like a nightmare to me!

The upbeat High School Musical 3: Senior Year took the top position of the Weekend Box Office for the second week in a row. R-rated Zack and Miri Make a Porno came in second place with Saw V not too far behind. Clint Eastwood’s Changeling managed to hold at fourth.

Below is the estimate of what the top ten movies made this weekend.

October 31, 2008 - November 2, 2008 (*millions)

  FILM GROSS
1 High School Musical 3: Senior Year $15,035,000
2 Zack and Miri Make a Porno $10,682,000
3 Saw V $10,110,000

7 Secret Life Of Bees, The $4,000,000
8 Max Payne $3,700,000
9 Eagle Eye $3,400,000
10  Pride and Glory $3,260,000

This weekend box office estimate from Variety is music to my ears. High School Musical: Senior Year celebrated a huge box office lead, which proves kids of all ages rather see an upbeat movie than a scary, dark horror movie.  Yes, I am talking about Saw V, which came in second. The rest of the movies missed the spotlight starting with Max Payne in third.

Max Payne topped the box office this week with W. trailing far behind and Beverly Hills Chihuahua just at the heels in third place. High School Musical 3: Senior Year opens this weekend with a huge audience base. The upbeat movie has a good chance of out dancing Payne to the top. We shall see come Sunday night.

Those looking to gobble up every last bit of information regarding the upcoming High School Musical 3 are in for a treat as Hollywood.com has recently released an interview with the movies front men, Corbin Bleu and Zac Efron.

In the interview they talk about life after highschool and, what else, yearbook singing. You can head here to see the full interview as they seem to have a problem with embeddable content.

High School Musical 3: Senior Year, directed by Kenny Ortega, is set for an October 24th release date.

I admit it, I watched “Mamma Mia!”. I know my friends will probably laugh at me about this but that’s them, and then there’s me. The film totally rocked. One indication is its success in the box office. The movie garnered $377 million to date internationally – and this is in a genre that hasn’t fared well in the international market.

But the Meryl Streep starrer once again took the No. 1 spot at the foreign Box Office over for Oct. 3-5 weekend, grossing $14.5 million. In the U.K. alone, “Mamma Mia” has banked an incredible $112.8 million.

This is great news for Disney, as they as set to release their own musical – “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” – in two weeks. The “High School Musical” franchise is as wildly popular abroad as it is in the U.S. In addition to the two “High School Musical” television movies, the franchise has spawned live stage shows and local-language productions.

High School Musical 3: Senior Year is actually hitting theatres this time, didn’t you know? Well, to hype it up a little bit Disney has decided to team with uber popular social networking site MySpace (like it even needed an introduction) and provide a little contest.

What exactly is the contest about, you ask? Well, it’s all surrounding school spirit as the one who best shows their inner Wildcat will win the Grand Prize. Grand Prize you say? Yep, the Grand Prize for this Disney x Myspace contest will be an all expense paid senior trip to (where else?) Disney World.

This contest runs through November 3rd so you better get your highschool spirit up and head over to  www.myspace.com/hsm3.

Watching this trailer with my daughter tells me High School Musical 3 is a fun movie to see.  Touting 10 original songs and the same spunk as the other two High School Musical movies made for cable TV means when it hits the big screen — it’s a box office hit.
