It’s apparent that Guy Ritchie created a wildly, raucous movie about Sherlock Holmes.  The mix of suspense, laughter and craziness makes this movie a gem for the holiday season.  Jude Law and Robert Downey, Jr. play brilliantly off each other — a true kinship has formed.

sherlock-(4)The newest Sherlock Holmes poster for the Internet is brilliantly crafted. The poster shows all the characters in the background involved in the movie with Dr. Watson (Jude Law) and Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey, Jr.) in the foreground.

Excitement is brewing because the word coming from Warner Bros. is that Guy Ritchie has created a pearl of a movie for everyone to enjoy and be entertained.  Sure it’s a re-imaging of a tale told many times, but this time the tale is told with flair and guts.

Nothing could be better than teaming Law and Downey. If you don’t think so yet, we’ll find out on Christmas Day.

185px-LoboThis one made me cough up a perfectly good bottle of Dew, folks.  ALL over my keyboard. It was vile.

See, I was cruising the news sites, looking for something interesting to talk about.  What do I find?  I find that none other than Guy Ritchie has been detailed to handle directing duties for the upcoming Lobo movie.

First, I’m amazed, because I never thought anyone would try and bring The Main Man into things.  If there was ever a comic book movie I wanted quite so badly as a Venom / Carnage, Deadpool or Transmetropolitan movie, it was clearly Lobo.  Better yet, shooting’s going to start early next year by last report.

Okay, sure…so putting Guy Ritchie in charge pretty much ensures that it’s going to turn into Lock Stock and Two Fraggin’ Barrels O’ Fun, but it’s Lobo.  How bad can it be with The Main Man on the scene?  You know you can’t go anywhere with the Last Czarnian without lots of things blowing up and some choice one-liners.  Even with Guy Ritchie it can’t be too highbrow.

I’ll take bets right now–two to one Ron Perlman gets an offer to play Lobo.

Reshoots have become the latest fad these days – all major films have to have at least one reshoot. Heck, even Guy Ritchie’s upcoming Sherlock Holmes film was being reported to be undergoing an extensive five-week series of reshoots, but all that has been shot down by the studio.

Warner Bros. officially refuted the report by a British tabloid, saying that the production team has not asked the studio for any reshoots. However, there is some filming about to take place, but they are part of the schedule.

Filming of the project recently wrapped up in the UK. It sees Robert Downey Jr. star as the legendary fictional British detective and Jude Law as his trusted sidekick Dr. Watson.

Accidents have hit the set of Guy Ritchie’s take on Sherlock Holmes. The Sun reports that Robert “Iron Man” Downey Jr. was knocked out accidentally by seven-foot British actor Robert Maillet after catching a hook to the chin.

“[Downey] went flying and was out cold… he didn’t want to go to hospital and kept trying to get up,” reads the report. The actor was revived by medics and needed stitches inside his mouth.

Other reports circulating on the web note that the set was closed for two hours when a tanker making a delivery burst into flames.

robert-downey-jr-sherlock-holmes-06 The very first photos of Robert “Iron Man” Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes from the set of the Guy Ritchie-directed film have now hit the tubes. These pictures are from the scenes being shot in Central London on Friday.

As you can see, Downey looks pretty cool as the legendary fictional detective. Dr. Watson is played by Jude Law, with Irene Adler, Holmes’ love interest, being played by Rachel McAdams.

The film is set to come out late next year.

Jude Law is expected to close a deal presently to play the famous Dr. Watson who historically and wisely has assisted the one-and-only Sherlock Holmes played by Robert Downy, Jr.

Guy Ritchie directs the film, which incorporates the classic tales written by Sir Author Conan Doyle and the comic book “Sherlock Holmes.”

The villain, Blackwood, still needs to be casted as a principle role as well as other principle roles.

Rumors lost this one.

Russell Crowe is not lined up to play Dr. Watson in the much talked about Sherlock Holmes movie being directed by Guy Ritchie.  Robert Downy, Jr. is definitely playing the ultra-famous detective while Downy’s wife is wearing the hat of producer.

Ritchie told Empire Online, “I don’t have a Watson,” said Ritchie at the world premiere of his contemporary gangster flick RocknRolla. “Somebody just told me that I have Russell Crowe lined up but that’s news to me. I suspect that hasn’t happened and I’m still looking for my Watson.”

Filming starts in a month and Dr. Watson will need to be on the set.  I am sure Ritchie is searching…

What about the story? Missus Downy told Empire Online, “The world is within all the stories and it actually goes back to the books but the story is actually one that we made for the movie,” continues Downey. “What we can tell you is that he’s a badass (Holmes) in this movie alright. That’s what we’re going back to, any Holmes fan that we’ve spoken to is getting really excited about this one.”

I heard about the opening credits to Guy Ritchie’s Rock N Rolla, but it didn’t spark my interested until Twitch explained to me that it’s pure animation.  I thought, okay, I’d love to see Gerard Butler animated. What woman wouldn’t? Anyway, I like the introduction to the movie, it flows and not over done with such a large cast.

Film company face-offs are not that uncommon. Last year there was the battle of the animated rats, Flushed Away (Dreamworks) and Ratatouille (Pixar/Disney), with the latter obviously winning. There was also the battle of large objects crashing into earth movies, with Armageddon and Deep Impact both released around the same time (whoever won, we lost). And it seems next year will see another face-off: the battle of the Sherlock Holmes movies.

Today the Hollywood Reporter announced that Robert “Iron Man” Downey Jnr has signed on to play Holmes in Guy Ritchie’s version of the movie. Last week saw the announcement of the first Sherlock Holmes revival, starring Borat creator Sacha Baron Cohen playing Holmes with Will Ferrell as Watson. The films will have differing takes on the traditional sleuth. While Ritchie’s film is based on a comic, and explores the more adventurous side of Holmes, Cohen’s Holmes will be playing for laughs.

So who will win? Well, after the hideous Swept Away and dull Revolver, I can’t help but feel that Ritchie is irredeemable. Sure, Downey Jnr is as hot as lava after the huge success of the entertaining Iron Man, but let’s not forget that he’s had more misses than hits in the past. My money is on the comic version. Since Borat Cohen is on a career high, and Ferrell will be an appealing support. Plus, the character of Holmes is so familiar, and the detective genre so exhausted, that it will be hard for a modern audience to take Holmes seriously. Indeed, a Holmes comedy was already made, Without a Clue, starring Michael Caine and Ben Kingsley, and while the premise was amusing (Holmes was a moronic poster-boy for Watson’s true brilliance), the delivery was sub-par. Let’s hope that Cohen and Ferrell can come up with a better film.
