gore verbinski Sad news for Pirates of the Caribbean fans, as trilogy director Gore Verbinski has announced that he will not helm the upcoming fourth installment. This has opened up his schedule for BioShock, the film adaptation of the seminal first-person shooter by 2K Games.

BioShock was a PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 shooter that explored the underwater city of Rapture, a capitalist haven and anarchic wasteland. A sequel is currently in development.

It is not known if Verbinski’s departure will affect the fourth Pirates film.

Pacino, Miller Join BioShock

The Chicago News Dispatcher reports that Prison Break star Wentworth Miller and Oscar-winner Al Pacino have been cast in BioShock, the upcoming game-to-movie adaptation.

Based on the 2007 action game, the film follows an underground city built in the 1940s by a business magnate who wanted to create a scientific utopia. However, his plans go wrong and the city falls into ruin, populated by hulking Big Daddies and Little Sisters who harvest Adam, an energy source.

Pacino is said to be in negotiations to play the magnate Andrew Ryan, while Miller will play Jack, the protagonist presented in the game.

The film is scripted by John Logan and will be directed by Gore Verbinski.

Verbinski Getting Gilio Script

Gore Verbinski, known best for Pirates of the Caribbean, has got himself a potential film, as Universal has acquired an untitled Michael Gilio script for the director.

The drama will tell the story of a retired rancher who responds to a phone solicitation swindle that wipes out his savings.

Verbinski is currently working on the animated film Rango, which stars Johnny Depp.

Poster The Host FR From Variety comes word that Universal Pictures is set to remake South Korean sci-fi thriller The Host.

The original film followed a giant squidlike creature that terrorizes a city. It is when the creature grabs a little girl that her dysfunctional family must come together to rescue her.

Fredrik Bond, known for his commercials, will make his feature film debut on the project. Mark Poirier is adapting the script; Gore Verbinski, Roy Lee, Doug Davison and Paul Brooks will produce.

Johnny Depp is set to work again with Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski on Rango, an animated movie, which is scheduled for a March 2011 release.

Depp plans to voice the lead character, a household pet that goes on an adventure to discover its true self.

John Logan wrote script based on an idea sparked by Verbinski, who plans on working with Industrial Light & Magic on the animation.

Rango hopes to use cutting-edge animation techniques allowing the capture of every aspect of Depp’s performance – I like that!
