Recent reports may have suggested that a Preacher movie is in the making and is coming out quite soon, but that isn’t what is happening, says Sam Mendes.

Speaking to Empire Online, Mendes revealed that development on the film is only in its very early stages, noting that he’s “gotta find a script… I’ve just got to get it written.”

The controversial Garth Ennis-written comic book series followed the actions of a superpowered preacher teamed up with his assassin girlfriend and an Irish vampire in the search of God.

The series was originally being prepped as a HBO series, but that fell through. Hopefully the movie will come through, because Preacher will be one hell of an experience to watch on the big screen.

Failed HBO television show Preacher is now making its jump to the big-screen, as Sony Pictures and Original Films have landed the film rights to the popular comic book series.

Created back in the ‘90s by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, the series followed a preacher possessed by Genesis, a supernatural entity that could rival the power of God. He is joined by an old girlfriend and an Irish vampire in a journey across America to find God, who has apparently ditched his duties in heaven.

Sam Mendes (Jarhead) is set to direct, with Neal Moritz and Jason Netter producing.
