Keira Knightley is to star in the sci-fi thriller Never Let Me Go for Fox Searchlight, which I would love to see her do as a nice change in genre.

Mark Romanek is set to direct the movie, which is a cloning-themed story, that also stars Andrew Garfield and Carey Mulligan.

Shooting starts in April in London and Norfolk, England.

According to Variety, the story focuses on a trio of friends who grew up in a boarding school with no contact or knowledge of the outside world until they discover they are clones grown for the sole purpose of organ donation.

Fox Searchlight has nabbed Marc Webb to direct The Spectacular Now, a coming-of-age drama-comedy based on Tim Tharp’s book.

The book was a finalist for the National Book Award and follows a hard-partying high school senior whose life changes when he meets a shy, insecure girl. Heartbreaking story when he realizes he is about to lose his youth and must stop living “the spectacular now.”

Fox Searchlight’s SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE opens in select theatres November 12th. This is such a riveting and feel good movie. I can’t wait to see it. This trailer says it all.

Fox to Rig Election

51YleK3YFWL._SL500_AA240_ Fox Searchlight has acquired the film rights to Billy Ray’s fact-based How to Rig an Election.

The film will follow the story of GOP operative Allen Raymond’s downfall following a campaign to jam phone lines at Democratic Party headquarters in an effort to swing a 2002 Senate election in New Hampshire.

Interestingly, Searchlight also acquired the rights to the Raymond memoir this January. They are looking to start sometime next year.

Slumdog Millionaire is the story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India’s “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?”

But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show’s questions.

Intrigued by Jamal’s story, the jaded Police Inspector begins to wonder what a young man with no apparent desire for riches is really doing on this game show?

When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out…

To find out the answer to the final question, be in the theaters when Slumdog Millionaire opens on November 28, 2008 or attend the world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The film is based on the bestselling novel Q&A by Vikas Swarup

From what I have heard about this film,  it’s endearing and a must see movie about coming of age and finding happiness with an all star cast. The movie opens October 17th.

Jennifer Hudson had this to say about The Secret Life of Bees, “It’s very raw, very raw. It affected each of us in some kind of way,” says Hudson. “Like with me, I had to do research like crazy on the civil rights movement. That messed with my mind. And then I had to fight three white men because I was my own stunt double…Dakota, Queen and Tristan (Wilds) had to go to bee school and learn how to deal with bees. Alicia had to learn how to play the cello,” says Hudson. “I’ve never had to be this involved in anything in my life! I had to touch a bug. I had a fit, honey. I nearly lost my mind! It was a beetle, but luckily, it was beautiful.”
