freaky mondayAs tempted as I am to bust out “what is this I don’t even” in the description of my reaction to the news about the upcoming adaptation of Freaky Monday, I’m going to try and refrain from obscure references.  Because frankly, this thing’s obscure enough all by itself without me adding a further cloud of obfuscation on top of it.

So here’s the deal–most of us know Freaky Friday, that goofy Disney cruise where the mother and daughter briefly switch places in a bizarre astronomical phenomenon that is neither very well explained or makes much sense.  Anyway, the duo spend a while swapped until they gain some perspective on each others’ lives or some such–it’s not like I watched it–and now, they’re going to tackle the sequel.  It’s called Freaky Monday, and the swap is not between a mother and daughter, nor a father and son if you guessed that, but–and brace yourselves, because this is like the new gold standard for sheer WEIRD–a girl and her English teacher.

No, seriously.  And before you ask, no, I have no idea when it’s coming out yet, but when I do, so will you.

This summer Fly Me To The Moon, a complete 3-D Animated Family Film, opens August 8th.

Fly Me To The Moon stars the voice talents of Kelly Ripa, Nicolette Sheridan, Christopher Lloyd, Ed Begley, Jr., Tim Curry, Trevor Gagnon, Philip Daniel Bolden, David Gore, Adrienne Barbeau, Robert Patrick and Buzz Aldrin, as himself.  I haven’t heard or seen Adrienne Barbeau in some time or Ed Begley, Jr.  I look forward to seeing how Kelly Ripa adds her voice talent to the movie.

The story sounds charming as it centers on three young flies set off on a courageous mission to become the first insects on the moon by hitching a ride on the historic Apollo 11 space flight.  Based on the actual transcripts and the original blueprints from NASA, the film’s stunning visuals and meticulous attention to detail introduce a whole new generation to the awe-inspiring achievements of the space program’s most momentous mission.

The year is 1969 and like everyone else in the world, Nat (Trevor Gagnon) and his pals IQ (Philip Daniel Bolden) and Scooter (David Gore) are abuzz over the upcoming launch of the first manned mission to the moon. Inspired by his Grandpa’s (Christopher Lloyd) oft-told tale of hiding aboard Amelia Earhart’s plane during her famed solo cross-Atlantic flight, Nat hatches a secret plan for the three young flies to stow away on the Apollo 11 rocket.  The hard part is keeping the plan secret from his mom, Mrs. McFly (Kelly Ripa)!
