Terence Howard may be out on “Iron Man 2″, but that doesn’t mean the show can’t go on. Don Cheadle is stepping in to replace Terrence Howard in “Iron Man 2,” Marvel Studios’ sequel to its summer blockbuster.

In the movie, Howard played Jim Rhodes, Tony Stark/Iron Man’s best friend and future armor-clad hero War Machine. One scene featured Howard looking at a silver suit of armor and saying “Next time,” a line that caused great delight for fans. The next time here won’t be for Howard after all. I have a feeling (and I’ll be totally disappointed if I’m not right) Don will don the silver suit as War Machine.

Marvel had no comment, but sources close to the deal said negotiations with Howard fell through over financial differences, among other reasons. Marvel, which had wanted to work with Cheadle, then decided to take the role in another direction and approached the actor, who is shooting Antoine Fuqua’s “Brooklyn’s Finest” with Richard Gere and Ethan Hawke.

‘Traitor’ Trailer

Jeff Daniels stars with Don Cheadle in Traitor.  I am glad to see Daniels in a film, again.  I know he does a lot of stage work, but stick to films, too, Jeff.  Traitor looks like a typical formula movie that opens August 29th.

‘Powder’ Stars Cheadle

Jose Padilha is set to write and direct a movie based on “Marching Powder: A True Story of Friendship, Cocaine and South America’s Strangest Jail,” a memoir Thomas McFadden wrote with Rusty Young.

Marching Powder, the working title of the film, is a drama that Don Cheadle has long wanted to star in and produce.

Cheadle intends to play McFadden, a British drug trafficker. He was arrested in Bolivia and jailed in La Paz’s San Pedro prison. During his six-year stretch, McFadden served as a tour guide in a prison that thrived under a capitalist system made possible by bribery of officials.
