Natalie Portman signed on to play the female lead in David Gordon Green’s Your Highness, a medieval fantasy comedy starring Danny McBride and James Franco. The story follows a pot-smoking prince who is given the responsibility to protect his kingdom from mythical beasts, but rather just hang out being a low lifer and stoned.
McBride plays the pot-head and Franco plays his brother. Portman plays a warrior princess, whom the lazy prince falls in love. The mythical creatures will be created in stop motion with puppets.
Variety reports that The O.C. star Adam Brody, along with Debi Mazar, Olivia Thirlby, Josh Gad, Alan Tudyk and Jake Busey will all be lending their voices to Fox’s upcoming animated television project Good Vibes.
The project has been penned by comedy veteran David Gordon Green (Superbad). It focuses on two high school surfers who live near the beach in California.
Gad will play Mondo, an out-of-shape, shaggy-haired teen looking to master surfing and win ovr Jeena (Thirlby), who thinks of Mondo more like a brother.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that David Gordon Green – moving on from comedies Superbad and Pineapple Express – will direct the horror thriller Freaks of the Heartland for Overture Films.
The film will be based on the Dark Horse graphic novel by Steve Niles. It followed a teenager’s attempts at protecting his “monster” of a 6-year old younger brother, along with other “freaks” of rural Middle American town Gristlewood Valley, from their parents’ worst instincts.
Peter Sattler and Geoff Davey are adapting the screenplay.
