Premiere Warner Bros Friday 13th Arrivals 1qdK0RSXeG8l Making a name for himself as the “remake director”, Marcus Nispel is set to helm the upcoming Conan the Barbarian remake. He is known for doing the remakes of Friday the 13th and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, both of which were – let’s be honest here – travesties of the originals.

The Conan remake will begin production later this year in Bulgaria and South Africa. Nispel hopes to blend his childhood imaginings of the character with the influence of the famous Conan illustrations by Frank Frazetta and visceral violent films such as Apocalypto.

While it is pretty much confirmed that Arnold Schwarzenegger – who starred in the 1982 original – won’t be appearing, it can be a safe bet that there will be lots of violence and scantily clad women. Both are winners in my book!

Ratner No Longer with Conan

ON THE LOT: Director/producer Brett Ratner ("Rush Hour 3," X-Men 3: The Last Stand) serves as a judge on the new moviemaking competition series ON THE LOT premiering Tuesday, May 22 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. ©2007 Fox Broadcasting Co. Cr: Mike Yarish/FOX Speaking to Empire Magazine, Joe Gatta, producer behind the upcoming reboot of Conan the Barbarian, revealed that Brett Ratner (Rush Hour) is no longer attached to the project.

Gatta said: "We’re currently in the process of hiring a director. For the past six months we were discussing the movie with Brett Ratner, and for more timing issues than anything else we had to part ways with Brett. We all wanted him to do it, believe me; just the timing didn’t work."

Production on the film begins August 24 in Bulgaria. A new director is being searched for.
