It’s a perfect time for Christmas movies to start coming out, seeing as the decorations have been up in the stores since like September. And so, we’re tackling Four Christmases today, a movie that shows that sometimes, time with the family is the best gift of all.
Even if you don’t notice it at first.
This time, a young couple who’s not terribly interested in getting married, usually manages to duck their family obligations around the holidays by making up elaborate stories and going off to various getaways instead. But a surprise San Francisco fogbank socks in the airport irrevocably, and so the four are left forced to spend Christmas in the last place on earth they want to…with their families.
Families. FOUR of them. Both of their families are divorced, and thus, they’ll have to spend four Christmases in just one day.
What’s so unnerving about this movie is that it veers so wildly between hilarious and awkward that it almost can’t decide whether it’s supposed to be funny or uncomfortable. It’s like the fat kid at school…he’s trying desperately to be funny, but it’s actually just about as sad.
Each of the families is deranged for its own reason, and believe me, they’re deranged. The least of the deranged is a family of backwoods amateur ultimate fighters. It gets worse from there.
It’s awkward. It’s painful, in spots. But it’s also got a lot of humor and warmth to it. There’s lots to enjoy here. We’ve all seen this kind of thing before. This is Christmas at its absolute. Family, friends, lovers, growth. Life.
And as such, the Screenhead Ten Scale gives this strange little allegory a six out of ten. There’s lots to like here, and there’s lots to feel uncomfortable about. It IS life. Take it for what it’s worth.

Man, when you actually hear this chunk of news, chances are you’ll nod your head in agreement, convinced that you’ve already heard it somewhere, but no. You heard it here, folks–there’s going to be a special appearance in Tron: Legacy by vaguely electronica group Daft Punk.
No, seriously. Daft Punk. You know, that club band everyone was listening to back in the late nineties, early two thousands or so? They’re not just appearing in it, either, they’re also scoring it.
Just for reference’s sake, I’ve attached a video directly below courtesy of YouTube to give you a better idea who these guys are and why it’s actually terribly appropriate that they show up in a movie like Tron. Like I said, this is actually a pretty good idea; so much so that you’d almost be convinced you heard it already, it’s just that rational a fit.
Tron: Legacy hits theaters this Christmas where it will likely pound holy hell out of its competition.
A Christmas Carol is taking shape nicely. I am impressed with the second trailer offering more information about the film and insight into the making of the film. The animation looks awesome with even more detailed work in the background.
Well, it’s official, folks–Tron Legacy has a release date and that release date is December 17, 2010.
Its upcoming competition? You’re going to love this–it’ll be taking on Yogi Bear, The Smurfs and The Green Hornet, which means it’s almost certain to be the top movie of that weekend if for nothing else than it’s based on the most recent source material? Or was it the Smurfs that’s most recent? Well, anyway, they’re both almost thirty years old at least, so chances are the adventures of Kevin Flynn’s son Seth will not be the overlooked one at the box office next Christmas.
I don’t hold out anywhere near so much hope for the Smurfs, however. Or for Yogi…or for the Green Hornet for that matter. But either way, I know which one of the four I’m actually hoping to see, and if my opinion is shared by any decent number of people, it’s gonna be a bloodbath.

Post your name and Screenhead will pick the winner of Randy Travis “Christmas on the Pecos” DVD on Friday, December 12, 2008.
Bob Anderson, who played young George Bailey in “It’s a Wonderful Life,” passed away today.  “It’s a Wonderful Life” is a classic Christmas movie that friends and family love to mention or pop in the DVD player when the holiday arrives.
Bob Anderson went on working behind the camera, mainly, assistant director or production manager.
