It looks like Chris Pine will fill the shoes of Jack Ryan from the Tom Clancy novels about the CIA analyst. Paramount Pictures strongly feels having Pine on board will fire up the franchise, once again.
We all know Pine as James T. Kirk inStar Trek, the JJ Abrams-directed summer hit with a sequel on its way.
Pine is expected to come aboard the Jack Ryan film while the project gradually takes shape. The story is based on an original concept by Hossein Amini. The project is in deep development and it is unclear whether Pine would make anotherStar Trek before the Jack Ryan film.
Captain Kirk, leaving behind his Federation uniform, is in talks to join the cast of upcoming action-thriller Unstoppable for 20th Century Fox.
Being directed by Tony Scott, the film centers on an experienced train engineer (Denzel Washington) about to be laid off as part of company cutbacks and the newbie – played by Chris Pine – conductor hired to replace him.
However, before the transition happens, they find themselves in a race against time to stop an unmanned, half-mile-long freight train carrying enough combustible liquids and poisonous gas to wipe out a nearby city.
Tony Scott’s Unstoppable might sign Chris Pine to star opposite Denzel Washington. If Pine signs on his role as a newbie conductor will be his first since starring in Star Trek.

Rumors have been swirling around the Internet, with different sites reporting variations of the same news: Chris Pine, who plays James T. Kirk in the upcoming Star Trek film, has been offered the role of Green Lantern in the upcoming superhero film.
The report is yet to be confirmed, though many sites are citing their sources that the rumors are false. However, it’s still out there, and it keeps on growing.
What is known, however, is that the producers have scouted Australia for suitable shooting locations. Filming is set to begin this September with Casino Royaledirector Martin Campbell in the director’s chair.
Above is a dodgy video of the upcoming Star Trek reboot, shown during a Quantum of Solace screening. Fans around the world have been buzzing with this new footage, especially of Chris Pine as Kirk, Heroes’s Zach Quinto as Spock, and for a split second, Simon Pegg as Scotty.
Needless to say, the footage will be removed shortly, so enjoy it while you can. It seems reboots are all the rage these days, with Bond having its highest opening ever in the US and UK, as well as The Dark Knight breaking box office records. And the reboot formula is certainly evident in JJ Abrams take on the origins of the Enterprise. Now, I’m no Trekkie, but my understanding of the show in all its incarnations was that it was rather cerebral. Sure, there were emotional bursts, but the show was more about moral dilemmas, as opposed to visceral emotional ones. Data processing and logic were the weapons of choice (with an occasional lazer fight). But here, Abrams has moved in an entirely different direction. We get race cars, fast-paced fights, and sultry sex scenes! It will be interesting to gauge the response to this footage. Will this new style turn off Trekkies, and perhaps make more money by appealing to the masses, or will this MTV-reimagining of the sci-fi show please no one by trying to please everyone? Time will tell.
Bottle Shock is based on a true story about a father and son, Jim and Bo Barrett, who put California wines on the map for good by besting the exalted French wines in 1976. Since I am from California and have enjoyed the Napa Wines, I can’t wait to see this movie.
A former real estate attorney, Jim (Bill Pullman) gave up everything to realize his dream of creating the perfect hand-crafted chardonnay. His business, however, is struggling, and he’s not only trying to overcome differences with his slacker son (Chris Pine), but is fighting off the creditors.
Meanwhile in Paris, unwitting British wine shop owner Steven Spurrier (Alan Rickman) hopes to stimulate his own failing business by sponsoring a competition which will pit the established French powerhouse against the California upstarts. Little did Steven and Jim comprehend that they were both on course to change the history of wine forever.
