The Road is not the most upbeat story, but it has some dynamite actors such as Robert Duvall, Viggo Mortensen and Charlie Theron. The trailer reveals why the world is dying and captures how bleak and hopeless it all feels.  But many feel the film should be seen despite its depressing theme.

Charlize-Theron_NYtimesWell now, here’s something interesting for you lovers of dystopian fare, like myself.  Seems that they’re working out some of the kinks involved in a remake of Mad Max, and they’ve come to two very interesting conclusions:

1. Charlize Theron should be in it.

2. Mel Gibson should NOT be in it.

You may be wondering how the elderly raving lunatic that started the whole thing, pretty much, is managing to be thrown over for a much younger man in the form of Tom Hardy.  In case you’re wondering who Tom Hardy is, he’s the guy who played Captain Picard’s clone in the poorly-realized cash grab Star Trek: Nemesis.

And I basically just answered the question right there.  Studio heads claim Mel’s just too old to handle the part any more.  So they’re handing it over to…the guy who made a bad movie even worse?  I guess this is why I don’t make the big bucks, because that just sounds IDIOTIC.

HancockIf you can’t get enough of liquored up superheroes, then you’re probably going to be about as happy as I am to hear the news that Hancock will be coming back for a second round. And by current reports, both Will Smith and Charlize Theron will also be back. No word as of yet if Jason Bateman will be coming back also, though for all our sakes, I really hope so. Unless, of course, it interferes with the shooting of the Arrested Development movie.  Then and only then am I prepared to live without them.

There is no word yet on the simple things, like when they’ll start shooting this, or even what it’s about, but for right now, it’s news enough just knowing that it’s coming eventually.

I’m actually looking forward to it myself, because Hancock was definitely not the kind of superhero you ordinarily saw.  And any time Hollywood can manage to do something even vaguely original, I know I want to be in line for it.

Original in Hollywood is kind of like a comet– you just plain don’t see that many of them.

sam-worthingtonI find it fascinating how the development of movies progress or digress as actors, directors and writers attached themselves and unattached themselves from the projects.

An interesting progression is the development of Tourist, Charlize Theron and Sam Worthington are the final top actors to play the key roles in the film to be directed by Bharat Nalluri.

If you have been following the movie’s development, you would have known that Tom Cruise was once attached.  Now, Thereon, who has been with the project for quite some time has another good looking actor.  Worthington last starred in Terminator Salvation and next in James Cameron’s Avatar.  He is even working on Clash of the Titans right now.

Where did Cruise go?  He’s moved on to an untitled project with James Mangold at Fox.

Charlize Theron’s production company, Denver and Delilah Films, made a deal and now owns the screen rights to Christopher Buckley’s satirical novel “Florence of Arabia.” Theron will produce and develop the film, so she can star in the film as well.

The adaptation from the novel will be done by Dean Craig.

“Florence of Arabia” concerns a fictional State Department employee (Theron). After watching her friend marry the prince of a Middle East country and then get executed, she decides to fight for equal rights for the women of that country. Only to discover in the end that investment bankers were behind her fight for equal rights to gain profit.

Charlize Theron is in talks to star in The Tourist with Tom Cruise. The film is a remake of the 2005 French Thriller Anthony Zimmer.  Bharat Nalluri is set to direct the Julian Fellowes script, a drama about a female Image PreviewInterpol agent (Theron) who uses an American tourist (Cruise) in an attempt to seek out a difficult criminal to catch with whom she once had a romance.

If all goes well filming starts in March. Christopher McQuarrie, who co-wrote the upcoming Cruise film Valkyrie, is polishing up the script.

Nalluri is a versatile director who’s worked in television and film. He most recently directed the HBO film Tsunami: The Aftermath and Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day.

The film focuses on the anti-globalization protests against the World Trade Organization in Seattle in 1999. Other notables in the film are Martin Henderson, Woody Harrelson and Channing Tatum.

“Seattle” is very intense, real life movie – irrational motives overcome the best of us.  Take a look at the films web site – “Battle in Seattle.”
