Bryan Singer will direct the fantasy adventure Jack the Giant Killer. The movie is being fast track, so most likely Giant Killer will be his next project that goes into production even though he has two others on the burner.

Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard) wrote the story from Darren Lemke’s original work. The story follows a princess who is kidnapped, threatening a long-standing peace between men and giants. A young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants’ kingdom in hopes of rescuing her.

Even though Giant Killer is being fast tracked, there is not start date yet.

The other two projects Singer is working on are Battlestar Galactica and the remake of Excalibur.

battlestar-galacticaTime for another round of rumor control, kids–we’ve got a doozy to investigate this time.

Seems word’s getting around that no less than Bryan Singer will be brought in to handle the upcoming adaptation of Battlestar Galactica–pretty much the only popular SyFy series there is–to be converted to the big screen.

I personally would find it terribly awesome to do a big screen version of Estate of Panic, and if anyone wants a script for that, just say the word. I’m all over it like lawsuits on a ten-dollar Best Buy TV ad.

But anyway, the big problem with that word that’s getting around is that, back in February, Universal hired series creator Glen Larson to do the EXACT SAME THING.

Given that there’s not too much likelihood that Larson and Singer would work together, that means somebody’s out.  But is the original creator overthrown for the big name?  Or is the big name’s appearance a massive steaming load?  Right now, no one’s all that sure, but keep it right here for all the latest.

I read at First Showing that Christian Bale is set to star with Mark Wahlberg in Prisoners. Now the Hollywood christian-bale-2.jpgReporter is saying the same thing, but more of a speculation, with the fact that Bryan Singer is markwahlberginterested in directing the film, though, it’s not official yet.

A Bale and Wahlberg movie would drive the financing and fast track production easily; especially if Singer comes aboard, too.

The script is pretty awesome as well.  Small-town carpenter’s 6-year-old daughter and her friend are kidnapped; he comes head-to-head with a young, arrogant detective in charge of the investigation.  The father is a Bible-reading, deer-hunting survivalist. The cop drive, basically, is to get to the city. Feeling failed by the law, the father captures the man he believes responsible and begins to torture him in a desperate attempt to find out what he did with the girls, whom he’s convinced are still alive.

The story, casting and direction speculation means a great opportunity for all three to have sure fire hit.

The Superman Returns sequel has had a lot of problems starting up, and following rumors that director Bryan Singer is no longer involved in the project dashed any hopes of it seeing the light of the day.

But that is not the case. UGO went to the man himself and asked about said rumors. “I am not officially involved in the talk, no,” was his first reply. However, when asked straight up if he is “divorced” from the project at this point, he responded with a resounding “no”.

Singer added: “Well it’s, you know, I have relationships with Warner Brothers and with the character and, and, and, and it’s just the way things work out.”

Valkyrie trailer premieres tonight at Yahoo.  The above picture is the star Tom Cruise as a proud military man, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg. The other picture is Cruise with director Bryan Singer.

Cruise plays is a loyal officer who serves his country all the while hoping that someone will find a way to stop Hitler before Europe and Germany are destroyed. Realizing that time is running out, he decides that he must take action himself and joins the German resistance. Armed with a cunning strategy to use Hitler’s own emergency plan – known as Operation Valkyrie – these men plot to assassinate the dictator and overthrow his Nazi government from the inside.

With everything in place, with the future of the world, the fate of millions and the lives of his wife and children hanging in the balance, von Stauffenberg is thrust from being one of many who oppose Hitler to the one who must kill Hitler himself.

VALKYRIE is produced by Bryan Singer, Christopher McQuarrie and Gilbert Adler. McQuarrie co-wrote the original screenplay with Nathan Alexander who also serves as co-producer. The executive producers are Chris Lee, Ken Kamins, Daniel M. Snyder, Dwight C. Schar and Mark Shapiro.

The film was shot in Germany at various locations where many of the actual events occurred, including the historic Bendlerblock. Recreating the atmosphere of urgency and paranoia inside the German resistance is a team that includes Singer’s frequent collaborators Newton Thomas Sigel (SUPERMAN RETURNS, X2, X-MEN) as director of photography and editor/composer John Ottman (SUPERMAN RETURNS, X2); as well as production designers Lilly Kilvert (two-time Oscar-nominee for THE LAST SAMURAI and LEGENDS OF THE FALL) and Patrick Lumb (THE OMEN) and costume designer Joanna Johnston (MUNICH, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN).
