walking-dead-If you’re not already getting AMC, on cable or satellite, you may have a good reason to coming up in the next few months–they’re hard at work on a new series based on Robert Kirkman’s comic The Walking Dead.

Zombie fans out there, you know how singlemindedly awesome this is, and the thought of a Walking Dead television series is enough to almost give you hope until you remember that THIS IS TELEVISION, and television often falls under the purview of the FCC, the biggest nanny-state outfit on the face of the earth.  But not to worry, folks, apparently the boys at AMC have already put a standard on Kirkman’s work–no profanities at F-bomb rank or higher.

Considering that they just turned a foot into pudding on Mad Men, and that show airs during prime time, they might just be able to pull off a little zombie gore and authenticity.  But even with some off-camera gore, a zombie based TV show is still a pretty awesome idea.

Starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson in the title roles, this popular tongue-in cheek action comedy is based on the even more popular 1970s cop show of the same name. Ken “Hutch” Hutchinson (Wilson) and Dave Starsky (Stiller) are a tough pair of plain-clothes cops who drive a red and white Ford Torino and solve cases with the assistance of their informant, Huggy Bear (Snoop Dogg). While investigating their latest case, the duo realizes that the culprit is none other than Reese Feldman (Vince Vaughn), the criminal involved in their first bust.

Starsky & Hutch also features appearance by Juliette Lewis, Will Ferrell, and Matt Walsh, who, along with Snoop Dogg and Vaughn.  AMC’s basic cable premiere of Starsky and Hutch is this Saturday, August 16th at 8pm/ 7c. And then, it runs again at 10pm/ 9c and on August 22nd at 8pm/ 7c.

Turn on your plasma screen this weekend and watch Oliver Stone’s “Alexander the Great” on American Movie Classics, June 21 8PM/7C and June 22 8PM/7C.  As Alexander the Great, Colin Farrell pouts and contemplates as he conquers the known world by the time he is twenty-five.  Anthony Hopkins, Angelina Jolie and Val Kilmer also star.

I think telling any story about a great man from ancient history is not easy.  Oliver Stone did a grand job. The above trailer shows it all.
