Heard in Rum Diary

Amber Heard has beaten out the likes of Scarlet Johansson and Keira Knightley to star opposite Johnny Depp in The Rum Diary, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The film will be an adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s novel, following a washed-up, hard-drinking journalist named Paul Kemp in 1950s Puerto Rico. Heard will play Chenault, the free-spirited girlfriend of a fellow journalist who cheats on him with Kemp, trying to convince him to run away with her.

It has been written by Bruce Robinson, who is also directing. The film is being produced by Depp himself, along with Christi Dembrowski and Graham King.

Director John Carpenter has returned to work by signing on to direct ghost story The Ward as an independent movie.

Pineapple Express actress Amber Heard is set to star as a haunted woman in a mental institution. Since the movie is taking place in a mental institution, it shouldn’t be too hard to make the movie scary.

William Hurt and Amber Heard are set to star with Zach Gilford in “The River Why,” an adaptation of the 1983 Sierra Club novel by David James Duncan.

The story is about the coming-of-age for a young man named Gus Orviston (Gilford) and his quest for an elusive rainbow trout, which is a metaphor for the man’s internal search for self-knowledge.

Hurt is Gus’ father, while Heard is his love interest, a tomboy fly-fisher.

Film starts in Oregon the beginning of July.
