Actor Kellan Lutz (Twilight) has joined the cast of the upcoming A Nightmare on Elm Street remake for Warner Bros and New Line.
He is in negotiations to play a popular school jock. However, due to his commitment on New Moon, the upcoming Twilight sequel, his role won’t kick off until late in the shoot.
The film returns to the roots of the famed horror franchise. Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) plays the new Freddy Krueger.
Helmed by Samuel Bayer, shooting starts May 5 in Chicago.

Jackie Earle Haley, who plays Rorschach in Watchmen, is set to star as horrific killer Freddy Krueger.
Samuel Bayer will direct from Wesley Strick’s script. Filming will start in Chicago.
A Nightmare on Elm Streetcenters on the horrific killer, who haunts the dreams of teenagers and kills them in their sleep. Krueger was originally played by Robert Englund in the 1984 original, spawning nine films and two TV series.
Haley made a smart move taking this role. The remake has Michael Bay behind it and some other big suits, which means the Elm Street franchise will start all over again like Friday the 13th.
Two very high profile casting rumors regarding the upcoming remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street have both been quickly shot down.
First up was the report that Lindsay Lohan had been casted as the lead lady. Producer Brad Fuller has said to HitFix that the story is not true at all and that Andrew Form did not comment on the story, adding that the included quotes were not his.
Later, Latino Review reported that Watchmen actor Jackie Early Haley was the front runner to play Freddy Krueger. Fuller shot this down, too, adding that “we’re not even negotiating with anyone yet.”
Reuters is reporting that legendary music video director Samuel Bayer is set to helm the upcoming remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street for Platinum Dunes.
The site notes that unlike other franchise reboots that incorporate various elements from sequels, this remake will be more of a direct remake of the first picture of the legendary horror franchise.
Bayer is best known for Nirvana’s “Smells like Teen Spirit”, Green Day’s “American Idiot” and Garbage’s “Stupid Girl”. He will make his feature film debut on Fiasco Heights which Platinum Dunes is producing.
