Shane Acker’s 9 takes place in a world parallel to our own, in which our very humanity is threatened. A group of rag dolls, stitchpunks, living a post-apocalyptic existence discover one of their own, 9, who may be the key to their survival.
The next stitchpunk of the group to introduce is visionary 6 voiced by Crispin Glover. Although reclusive and eccentric, his bursts of artistic inspiration through drawings made from his pen nib hands may be keys to help his fellow stitchpunk beings navigate their darkest hours.

Voiced by Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly, 5 is a caring, nuturing engineer – the loyal, big-hearted “common man” who always tries to play the peacemaker. He is also an apprentice of 2, with whom he shares a special bond.
When 9 (Elijah Wood) first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others, stitchpunks, like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 provides evidence to the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they’ll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them.

I am fond of 2 who is voiced by Academy Award Winner Martin Landau, 2 is a kindly but now frail inventor and explorer who embodies the Scientist’s strong creative spirit. An inquisitive personality, 2 is fearless. Director Shane Acker affectionately describes him as a “salty old dog”.

Focus Features sent me all the images and character descriptions for the movie 9. The characters are called Stitchpunks and here is the first one.
Voiced by one of the world’s most respected actors, Christopher Plummer, 1 is the Scientist’s first creation. As the elder, he is the self-declared leader of the group. He is clever and sly, but also domineering, quick-tempered, and threatened by the new arrival of 9, whose higher intellect leads him to question authority.
A new era in animated storytelling begins on 9.9.09. Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton (The Corpse Bride, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory) and Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Nightwatch) join forces to produce wunderkind director Shane Acker’s distinctively original and thrilling tale. 9 stars Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Martin Landau, Christopher Plummer and Crispin Glover and features the music of Danny Elfman.
Click on 7 to view the complete character posters from Shane Acker’s 9. The movie is about a place similar to our own world where humanity is threatened. Yet, a group of rag dolls surviving a post-apocalyptic existence discover one of their own kid – 9 – may be their key to even eternal survival.

Shane Acker’s 9 introduced another character from the movie. Little 8 came into being for the purpose to protect the rag dolls from the evil machine uprising. He wields a meat cleaver and half a scissor, a none-too-bright muscle and enforcer of the group, 8, is created to help the others physically survive the dangerous, post-apocalyptic world.
Focus Features sent me their new website for their upcoming animated film 9, directed by Shane Acker and produced
by Tim Burton.
The ‘9′ Scientist’s lab can be visited by clicking on the Scientist who recently opened his lab to the public. Explore and discover the Scientist’s inner most thoughts, ideas and inventions through his personal journal, videos, clippings, sketches, and more. Spend some time exploring his archives, and actively participate in the development of the story leading up to the opening scene of the film.
It’s fun and an awesome way to research, discover and meet 9.
This poster talks to me and draws my curiosity. The background of the ruined city with the words “When Our World Ended Their Mission Began” is delightful in a way. Did you notice the Screenwriter’s name is prominently on the poster? You don’t see that very often.

Shane Acker’s movie 9 features some ultimate art design and superlative CG animation. I came across MTV’s exclusive coverage of 9’s framework like a burlap head and body. The official lowdown on the structure of Elijah Wood’s title character is a MTV’s site. Click on 9’s head to get there.

I know it’s a Russian poster, but I love the colors and the overlook of each character around the number 9. Shane Acker’s 9 trailers can be seen here and here. Yes, they are in English. By the way the movie opens September 9, 2009 and the Russian title turns into 09-09-09 for its release date.
Thanks to First Showing for bringing this poster to my attention.
