150px-suzanne_pleshette.jpgOne of my most favorite actresses passed away this weekend. Suzanne Pleshette, whom I first met while watching Alfred Hitchcock’s “Birds.” I loved the irony of her character: a wonderful teacher, yet she felt her life was unfulfilled.

Then, her movies with, ever so angst, Troy Donahue, who she in real life was married for less than a year.

Her career started in the 50’s, and spanned from Broadway to television to films and then to television to films — a true working actress.

To my surprise, wondering why I didn’t notice, reading her obituary on the newswire service, she even furnished the voices of Yubaba and Zeniba in the English dub of Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki’s Academy Award-winning film “Spirited Away” — one of my favorite Miyazaki’s movies.

Probably, most audiences remember her as Emily Hartley, Bob’s wife, in “The Bob Newhart Show.”

She died weeks before her 71st birthday and the honoring of her Hollywood Walk of Fame Star.

And, yes her husky-voice well always be remembered as a recognition of her career, “Good Night, Bob.”
