You always have to wonder about the implied risk with a movie name like “Superbad”. One could almost imagine all manner of critic titles lampooning a name like that.
Fortunately, it didn’t come to that for the comedy. The flick – boosting much of the same talent as “Knocked Up” behind the scenes – made quite an impression at the box office, reigning in 33 million on a production budget of 20 million.
“Rush Hour 3″ managed to keep up speed at 21 million at the box office. There were concerns the action comedy triquel would burn out at the box office, but that doesn’t seem to be the case just yet.
“The Bourne Ultimatum” fell short of Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker by only a few million, taking $19m at the box office. Overall, a pretty solid week – with the grosses not nearly down as far as some analysts predicted.
Next week sees the summer essentially draw to a close, with flicks like “War”, “The Nanny Diaries”, “Resurrecting the Champ” and . . . ummm . . . “Mr. Bean’s Holiday”.
