Spike Lee will direct World War II epic ‘Miracle at St Anna’. The movie is based on the book by James McBride who has contributed the screenplay. The movie will begin filming in Italy next year.
Lee stated he wanted to do a World War II film that focuses on African Americans in the war battles. ‘Miracle of St Anna’ is based on black soldiers fighting in the mountains in Tuscany against the Nazi Germany army.
“I met a black veteran who fought at Iwo Jima, and he told me how disappointed he was that there was not even one Afro-American (soldier) in Clint Eastwood’s two films” Variety reported Lee stated.
The movie will be a big budget affair. The cast will be comprised of mostly Americans.
