I listened to the Soul Men soundtrackCD yesterday and it’s worth a listen – I loved it.  What poignant moment I had when I heard late legend Isaac Hayes’ original recording of Stax Records “Never Say Goodbye.” I’d say ”Goodbye” is the best song on the soundtrack.

As a whole the Soul Mensoundtrack is authentic soul music and it stands solid, faithfully recreating the legendary sound and flavor associated with Stax Records at the height of its popularity in the late ‘60s through the mid-‘70s.

The late Bernie Mac, Samuel L. Jackson and Sharon Leal offer a hilarious take on Isaac Hayes’ memorable 1972 smash “Do Your Thing” as the album’s closer.  The CD also features other stellar original Stax recordings: 1971 Top 5 R&B and Top 30 pop hit) and longtime soul man Eddie Floyd (of “Knock On Wood” fame) via the 1968 hit “I’ve Never Found A Girl (To Love Me Like You Do).”
