Sony Planning Spider-Man 4 AlreadyJanuary 22nd, 2007 in Movies |
With the Spider-Man franchise being a never ending cash bonanza for Sony Pictures, and the third installment primed to dominate summer cinema in 2007, it should come as no surprise to anyone that a web is already being spun for Spider-Man 4. Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi have both dropped some heavy hints that three Spidey films is more than enough, but Sony don’t really care who’s in the suit or behind the camera. Webslinger films sell.
But give Sony some credit. Rather than hiring Michael Bay to produce an explosiontastic fourth installment they’re apparently talking to screenwriter David Koepp, pictured (who penned the original Spider-Man film as well as semi-thoughtful blockbuster War Of The Worlds, and even had an Indiana Jones 4 script accepted) about writing Spidey 4.
My feeling is the four films is at least one too many. Even if Raimi’s third film performs as expected and cleans up this summer, the time would be right to call it a day and let Spidey retire his tight-fitting suit with some dignity.
