Taking a look at The Stone Angel trailer, one can see a very human story of a woman who made mistakes and reflects back as she contemplates moving into a nursing home at the age of ninety-four.  Ellen Page and Ellen Burstyn star in this film directed by Kari Skogland.

I interviewed Skogland some years back and found her on the cutting edge of moviemaking. When I heard she was behind this production, the thought didn’t mix well because her other films I had seen, Liberty Stands Still and Zebra Lounge, are quite different from Stone Angel as you will see from the trailer.

But don’t get me wrong. Skogland comes across very warm and sympathetic. She is a mother, too. Thus, I can appreciate her talents and abilities to make an endearing film like The Stone Angel.

Skogland was struck by The Stone Angel, based on the bestselling novel by Manitoban author Margaret Laurence, when she was fourteen years old after she read the book in school.

The film has a limited release — July 11th.

[...] It looks like a fun movie, and boy, we sure could use an ensemble movie that’s a blast to watch. Ellen Page is in every clip and is the main focus in all the trailers I’ve seen.  The story centers [...]
