Sean Connery Wants To Be Bond’s Dad

March 20th, 2007 in Actors, Movies

ConneryDespite his last film role being in the abysmal The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Sean Connery’s now claiming he’ll only come out of his acting retirement cocoon if offered the part of James Bond Senior, and even then he’d want a small fortune.

“If the part was well written, I could come back as Bond’s father but it would cost them. It would definitely cost them,” said the elderly Scot.

I think this tells you everything that’s wrong with Sir Sean Connery’s decision makinng process. If he understood what made Casino Royale such a return to form he wouldn’t be making insane suggestions about Bond having an on-screen daddy. That would ruin the whole cold ruthless killer bit slightly wouldn’t it?

Watchable actor though he is, this sort of wacky thinking is probably how Connery found himself in a film like TLOEG. Rather than demanding obscene amounts of wonga for ridiculous non-existent roles, Connery should be looking to add a touch of class to his later years by doing some proper acting.

Fat chance of that ever happening. I’ve never truly liked Connery as an actor. The last movie I’ve enjoyed the fact that he was in was The Rock. And the movie before that? The Untouchables, I guess. I’ve never even liked him as James Bond. I only like how his version of Bond was played, as apposed to all the others until Craig’s version. The current producers of the Bond series have a great thing going and they really don’t need to screw things up by doing anything “cute” like what is suggested here. They’ve stumbled onto the way to truly bring Bond to film. I hope they don’t bother giving Connery a response. Don’t return any of his phone calls. Damn, after reading this story it makes me almost hate the guy.

I saw TLOEG on FX the other day, they had an interview with Connery before going to commercial where he essentially said he signed on because with green screens these days they could make anything amazing. He said he had been offered a role in both The Matrix and LOTR, however he didn’t understand the stories! What a great quote. I’ve never really been amazed with the guy, but that cinched it for me. The Matrix had some fun, mild, philisophical overtones and LOTR was an allegory for World War 2. As a man of his age and one would think sophistication, after all he has spent his life surrounded by artists, the complexities of The Matrix should have been pretty easily grasped. And concidering he was alive and living in the UK when WWII was occurring and then subsequently when the novel came out, it should have been pretty cut and dry too. So, I have to say, can’t expect much from this dumbshit.

Having read connerys biography i am pleased to say that people are very quick to dis him. Having struggled his way out of dead end jobs in his youth to ending up a high earning actor proves that he has talent. OK many actors have done abismal films but mainly due to bad plots or directors.
To see connery at his finest try watching THE HILL (1965) directored by sidney lumet. And if you didnt know connery origional was a stage actor who was even offered lead roles with macbeth which traveled the world but he turned it down in his youth, as he has and always will turn down many offers.
