Comparing Saw movies to Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elmstreet is like comparing water to beer: both hit the spot… depending on what you are thirsting for. And, for the record, Nightmare on Elmstreet was my favorite horror series growing up.

With the Saw franchise, here you have a set of horror films, that offer something more than just blood and gore. Look at the horror movies in general. This franchise does not require sexy outfits and has a subplot that puts most movies to shame. How these movies intermix is a change from the standard hollywood drivel that is being put out these days. These movies are something new. These are, quite frankly, the sharpest and most brilliantly written horror movies ever made.

In reading some of the reviews out there, it is obvious that either: the reviewers “don’t get it” or made up their mind before seeing all of the films (and understanding them). One reviewer actually says, “I thought Saw 5 was going to start at the end of Saw 4, but it started at the end of Saw 3 which I haven’t seen in 2 years…”. Goof, Saw 3 and 4 ended at the same point in time.

I would certainly rather see more horror movies like Saw than Scream. Horror movies actually giving a crap about the story line and character development.

Jigsaw will go down as one of the most iconic villains of all time.

Finally, this series will go down as one of, if not THE, highest grossing horror franchises in history. They are making a killing because the people who “get it” and don’t use ridiculous words like “torture-porn” to describe it, can’t get enough.

In terms of Saw, I saw (snigger) the first one, and found it to plod along well until the ending, which I found to be ridiculous. I’ve no intention to watch any of the sequels. Fingers crossed that this will not make too much money, and kill the franchise stone dead.
