Saw 3 DVD Review: The annual gorefest continues.January 23rd, 2007 in Dvd, Movies, Reviews |
Seeing Saw 3 in the middle of January is not the same as seeing it on Halloween. It just isn’t. I watched it anyway.
You all probably know the saga of a man named Jigsaw. He’s an older fellow who was unfortunately diagnosed with a brain tumor. Oh, and he kills people…indirectly. He constructs tests for individuals that are carefully selected based on how he believes they waste their lives. These ‘games’ (as he likes to call them) consist of numerous medieval-like torture devices and mind-bending puzzles that are built to reveal which things are truly important in these people’s lives. In Saw 3, Jigsaw unleashes his unbridled creativity upon a handful of people who (as in the prior two movies) are all connected in some way. He thinks he’s doing these poor souls a favor. They think it’s torture. I think it’s entertaining.
If I didn’t already know they were in pre-production for Saw IV, I’d say this was a perfect end to a gory trilogy. The third installment of Saw gives you some back story on the main players, some in-between sequel footage, and a supposed end that is three years in the making. What more can you ask for? More blood than Hostel. More twists than an M. Night Shyamalan box set. More locks and chains than a high school bike rack. It won’t win an Oscar, but it’ll win your heart.
Buy it, and then don’t watch it until next Halloween. Or Easter.
