Because WGA plans on picking the Golden Globe Awards, none of the 70 actors nominated will attend the Jan. 13 ceremonies.
Apparently, Globes production company, Dick Clark Productions, offered to settle with WGA in the same fashion Letterm
an’s company. However, WGA balked at the same terms and said it will picket the Globes instead.
SAG even asked actors to only appear on Letterman shows (”Late Show with David Letterman” and “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson”) and avoid the other latenighters singling out “The Tonight Show.”
Variety coverage of this episode depicts the “He saids and they saids” drama quite well.
I just wish they could all resolve the issue for the greatest good.

Wow, I think there’s a chance the Globe could be cancelled. Who’s going to care about a celebrity-less ceremony?

How many really care about a celebrity-full ceremony. I think their biggest fear is that the Globes won’t happen and no one will care. It is mostly self-congratulatory back-patting, though the Globes are at least a bit more outside than the Academy Awards which is all self-promotion. Let the Globes go away and get back to settling a deal with the writers. Just in time for the SAG and DGA negotiations that will come up later this year…who will be asking the same thing, which is basically if you make money off my product ANYWHERE, I should get a piece of that money, too. ‘Nuff said.

Interesting take on the whole scene. Although there are negotiations with solutions for both sides happening, namely, Lettermen, Spirit Awards and UA, hopefully others, too.
It’s interesting how this is playing out, some can come to the table and talk it out while others are nowhere near the table.
