It’s the day after the Day After Tomorrow, so what are you going to do? If you’re Roland Emmerich the answer is “remake a forty year old film starring Raquel Welch!” Having just completed a new version of 10,000 B.C., a remake of the film that famously launched Ms. Welch’s career and sold a zillion posters of the star in the fur bikini, Emmerich has now signed on to remake Fantastic Voyage.
For those who have never seen Richard Fleischer’s original film, a group of scientists a shrunk to microscopic size to do extremely delicate surgery inside a man. With the advances both in medical technology as well as special effects, this could well be one remake that could be of interest. No word as to who will film Welch’s skin tight outfit.
As for 10,000 B.C., the last version, with special effects by Ray Harryhausen, was titled One Million B.C. and was itself a remake of a 1940 film starring Victor Mature and Carole Landis. While producer Hal Roach was the credited producer, pioneer filmmaker D.W. Griffith is reputed to have had a hand in that film.
