Yes. You are right, the films are not the same. But, having a money making venture does create the right effect for a director to make the movies he wants to make.

Yes, but is he being forced into a biopic because he signed a contract with Warner when making The Fountain, and now he's being regarded as genre-trash making because his vision does not equate to big bucks. You have to admit that the profundity of his previous films will not be matched with a wrestling and boxing pic.

If you take a look at Aronofsky's path to film making, he takes on projects that never quite make it to the screen.

The Fountain had a heck of a time getting produced and then failed. Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchet were attached, with movie sets in place, Pitt bowed out.

The Fighter's path is similar.

Not only does Aronofsky have RoboCop, but he also has a handful of other film projects. Who knows how the production will play out to the screen.

The wrestling film sounds like a sure in for a money making venture -- it's a biopic -- and could prove fruitful.

I am not interested in wrestling, but it's very popular overall and brought in $486 billion 2007 in the US alone with a net profit of $52 million. Those numbers say a lot when you are looking for an audience.

What the hell is up with Darren Aronofsky? After making three brilliant and distinct movies, he's now making two sports films (a wrestling and a boxing flick), and reviving a series that simply does not need reviving. Is this punishment for The Fountain's box office failure?
