Joely Richardson, who told the world last year that she was quitting FX’s hit bizarro plastic surgery drama, has decided to return to the show. If you remember, she cited her daughter’s ailing health and wanting to spend more time with her family as the reason for quitting, but it appears her daughter’s health is better and a pay raise helped change her mind.
Richardson will be appearing in 15 of the next 22 episodes in Season 5 of the series, and will be bringing home a hefty $100,000 per episode.
Shooting on the new season of Nip/Tuck began last week, and joining Richardson this year will be some new characters, as well as the return of some old ones.
Dylan Walsh and Julian McMahon are going to be back this season, also bringing home larger paychecks. Both have renewed their contracts and will be taking in $136,000 per episode.
Oliver Platt has signed on to play the role of Freddy Prune, the producer of a TV on which Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) and Christian Troy (Julian McMahon) serve as consultants.
Portia de Rossi, the real-life partner of Ellen DeGeneres, will play in the reoccuring role of a manipulative lesbian mother who wants her daughter to have plastic surgery.
Ex-supermodel Lauren Hutton will also be making at least 3 guest appearances on the show, playing the role of a Hollywood publicist bringing a star client in for plastic surgery.
Rosie O’Donnell will be back again on Nip/Tuck this fall as Dawn Budge, this time playing the love interest of Freddy Prune (Oliver Platt).
Paula Marshall (Veronica Mars, Out of Practice) is also joining the cast, appearing in four episodes as a romantic interest of Sean (Dylan Walsh).
It’s been a year since the start of season 4, which ended on a somewhat strange note. It’ll be interesting where they take the series this year, and what strange tales they can cook up for audiences this year. As always, you can expect lots of nudity, sex, language, violence, and, of course, lots of gorey surgeries.
