Would you like to see ‘80s action heroes stage comebacks? At least Dark Knight producer Charles Roven and Transporter producer Steve Chasman think so, as they are teaming up to produce The Destroyer, a franchise vehicle that brings back Remo Williams, who was a popular hero back in the era of really bad hairstyles.
War of Gods writers Charley and Vlas Parlapanides are onboard to write the screenplay. The film will focus on a New Jersey cop convicted of a crime he didn’t commit. He is then sentenced to the electric chair, but his death is faked so that he can be reborn as the vigilante character the Destroyer, joining a top-secret assassin squad set up by the government to operate outside the reach of law.
The series has continued since the original material through the ‘70s and ‘80s. Hundreds of paperbacks have been released so far.
Columbia owns rights to the whole series, but has so far confirmed one movie.
