“Redacted” Causes a Stir with Bill O’ReillyNovember 14th, 2007 in Documentary, Movie News, Movies |
Brian DePalma’s film “Redacted”, which we’ve written about extensively here on Screenhead, is coming under fire from none other than the right-wing nutcase, Billy O’Reilly over at FOX News. O’Reilly is now calling for his fans to boycott outside of theaters showing “Redacted”, holding signs that say “Support Our Troops.” Additionally, he called for such signs at Dallas Mavericks games as well.
Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks NBA basketball team and Magnolia Pictures, is credited with being an executive producer on this film. As such, Bill O’Reilly has also set his sights on him, calling Cuban “anti-American” for releasing such a film.
“Redacted” is a collection of stories about U.S. soldiers fighting in the current Iraq war, which also focuses on modern forms of media covering the war. Bill O’Reilly has not seen the film, which opens in U.S. theaters on November 16th, but finds issue with an infamous scene depicting a U.S. solider raping a 14-year-old girl.
“Brian DePalma ..should be ASHAMED. (Redacted) will incite young Muslim men, already steeped in hatred toward America and the West, to act on their hatred. If just one of those men straps on a bomb vest and murders people, that is on Brian DePalma,” said O’Reilly.
This small budget film has now gotten a healthy dose of free advertising compliments of Bill O’Reilly. It looks very much to be worth checking out, so this Friday, go on out and catch it at your local theater and tell us what you think.
In the mean time, here are some links to O’Reilly on “Redacted”.
