PulseThe trailers for Pulse made it look like a guaranteed bone-chiller. I never got around to seeing it in the theatres like I wanted, but I knew it would be rent-worthy. I’m almost ashamed to say it actually was. Even with Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell).

Pulse is pretty much another cliché movie that happens to be a metaphor of what technology is doing to us as of late. The void of social interaction that the internet and instant/text messaging leaves us with is translated into a bunch dead albino people who suck the life out of you. Real compelling, apocalyptic-type stuff. In times like that, the Amish are king.

These days they’re putting out a lot of teen-horror garbage that lack substance and originality. There was no gratuitous nudity or a mysterious (but predictable) killer loose, which made Pulse a breathe of fresh air and actually a decent move. As long as you don’t count the weak dialogue and bad acting. With a good script, it could have been much better. Although, the suicide angle they used was interesting.

This movie is definitely creepy and packed with enough disturbing images to make you want to steal your daughter’s night light for the evening. A lot of the scenes are in the dark or in the shadows, which set up great suspenseful scenes. I’m not afraid to say I did jump a couple times…in a manly way of course.

It’s not something I’d ever purchase, but it’s a good rent to scare your lady-friend. I almost wish I caught it at my local Cineplex.
