Pirates of the Caribbean Still the Box Office Treasure
June 4th, 2007 in Box Office

The numbers are in for the week and ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ managed to hold off the comedy ‘Knocked Up’ for the top spot. ‘Shrek The Third’ took third place while the new drama (reviewed today by me today) managed a fourth place finish for its first week. Spider-Man 3 took fifth place for the week.
Hostel 2, Oceans Thirteen, and Surf’s Up will hit theaters on Friday. It looks like the next true heavyweight at the box office will be the newest installment of ‘Harry Potter’ which hits the theaters July 11th.
1 - Pirates Of The Caribbean: $43,188,00
2 - Knocked Up $29,248,000
3 - Shrek The Third $26,704,000
4 - Mr Brooks $10,020,000
5 - Spider-Man 3 $7,500,000

Yes Pirates is still on top, but in reality it’s sinking in terms of expectations. With Pirates 2 making over 400 million last year, there is absolutely no way this film will get even near that. Most are saying that it won’t even make 300 million, which is far under studio expectations. The fact of the matter is that Pirates 3 is majorly underachieving in terms of expectations.
