83% of tickets on Fandago are being purchased for the newest installments of Pirates of the Caribbean. While those sales are a lot it trails the torrid pace of the newest Spider-Man sequel. It could mean a few different things: A) People are getting a little tired of sequels B) Movie Goers (myself included) thought the second installment was lacking or C) Memorial Day weekend may not have same type of presale and walk-up could be immense.
The hype, although I have heard many people discussing the film, does not seem has high as the latest Spider-Man. The review today in Variety was lukewarm and seemed to imply that instead of making one great movie the studio extended it to two lengthen the series.
The one thing I am looking forward to in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End’ is the addition of Keith Richards. It will be interesting to see what type of dynamic he will bring to the film. Let us all hope that Johnny Depp’s excellent role of Captain Jack Sparrow isn’t wasted with too few scenes which I felt was the case in part 2.

I imagine it’s trailing behind Spiderman 3 because that opened on the first weekend of the summer holidays without any competition. Pirates is opening on the 4th weekend of Spidey and the 2nd weekend of Shrek 3, so it has more competition. That said, experts are saying that Pirates will last longer and make more money.
Personally, I didn’t like the first Pirates enough to see the sequel, and will not be bothering with this one. I wonder do I get minority rights for that?
