BOOOOOOOOOOY!
I’m just all atwitter about this. See, I love the Phantasm series. It’s got just about everything I love in my horror movies: abandoned towns, scavenge, amateur mechanical engineering, homemade weapons, and the living dead.
If you didn’t think the fact that an ice cream man and some kid from nowhere could build and operate both a working flamethrower and a quad-barreled shotgun was awesome, then I have no idea what you’re using as a definition of awesome. But anyway, further awesomesauce can be derived from three interesting points:
1. 2009 is the thirty year anniversary of the original Phantasm.
2. Phantasm 2 will finally get its DVD release this September and yes, it’s already on my Netflix queue.
3. This sweet chunk of newsy goodness from the ice cream man, Reggie Bannister:
“Just hang in there and keep your fingers crossed for another ‘Phantasm’ episode, if we can call them episodes. They are kind of like earthquakes, they show up when you least expect them. [laughs] Keep your eye out for that.”
And then, his response to said interview:
“If you’re not calling them episodes right now, you will be soon. Nice hint there as to what comes next, Reggie.”
Does this mean we’re going to be looking at the Phantasm webseries? Will we get more fun with the ice cream man and his buddy chasing The Tall Man around? Will ANGUS SCRIMM come back???
Man, if that happened, I think I’d finally be able to understand Twilight fans. That’d be awesome on an unprecendented level of awesome for me. It would not merely be awesomesauce, but the entire awesome cake, covered in awesomesauce.
More news as it becomes available, and if it does go webseries and I can find it, look for reviews here too!
