After more than 50 years in the business, silver screen legend Paul Newman, 82, has decided to let his acting career come to an end. Newman says he will no longer act because he cannot perform at a level he would find acceptable.
“I’m not able to work anymore as an actor at the level I would want to. You start to lose your memory, your confidence, your invention. So that’s pretty much a closed book for me. I’ve been doing it for 50 years. That’s enough,” said Newman.
Newman, however, won’t be sitting idle. Instead of acting, Newman will work on promoting his organic eatery, Dressing Room, located in Westport, Connecticut, as well as continuing work with his charity for seriously ill children.
Newman’s last notable movie role was that of Doc Hudson in 2006’s animated hit Cars, but will probably best remembered for his roles in such classic movies as Cool Hand Luke, Color of Money, The Verdict, and The Sting.

Paul Newman has never made a bad choice. However, as a devoted fan of his for the past 41 years, I am devastated. He is magnificent as an actor and outstanding as a humanitarian, Not a week goes by without his name being associated with some political, environmental or humanistic events. He still won a race at Lime Rock last week!! He is still heavily involved in the daily production at his restaurant and is hands-on at his Hole In The Wall Gang Camps around the world. This is hard to hear and all I can say is God Bless Paul Leonard Newman.
