nightmareacademy.jpgUniversal Studios is hoping to make a film adaptation of the “Nightmare Academy” series of kid-lit books by Dean Lorey, and have announced that they’ve signed on David Reynolds to write the script.  That is, if the writer’s strike doesn’t go down this fall. Stephen Sommers and Bob Ducsay are slated to be producing.

The “Nightmare Academy” book series has been a hit with children and teens, with its first book in the series published in August by HarperCollins.  The premise of the book is a group of young adults who attend an academy where they are trained to be responsible for policing nightmares.  Universal bought the film rights last year for a high-six figures.

Reynolds, who has been signed as the writer, is best known for his work in the animation field, working on big-name hits like “Chicken Little”, “Finding Nemo”, “A Bug’s Life”, and “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.”
