Finally Kevin Costner has realised he doesn’t have to be the hero all the time. His ego demands that he still has to be the star, but not necessarily the hero. He plays a murderer in Mr. Brooks, possibly one with a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde thing going on. Possibly William Hurt represents Costner’s Tyler Durden type darker instincts, and I quite like that lack of clarity. It has me interested.
Not that this is going to be great - it stars Kevin Costner - but it looks like it might be enjoyable in a cheap thriller kind of way. Speaking of cheap thrills, did you spot the only man with a bigger ego than Costner in the trailer? That’s right, Dane Cook. In a dramatic role. Looks like he managed to keep himself from leaping about like a lunatic long enough to play a straight part, but after Employee Of The Month I’m finding him very difficult to digest as a proper actor.
Mr. Brooks will open on June 1st 2007.

Yowza! That looks shitty. Not as bad as that Julie Taymor Beatles fiasco, but more in the arena of laughably mediocre. The whole thing reeks of miscasting, from Costner as a killer(shyeah) to Demi Moore acting, and Dane Cook being serious? I’m very interested to see him play dead when his character is inevitably killed.
