Movie Review: ‘Breach’ is a Must See DVD
June 15th, 2007 in Actors, Drama, Dvd, Movies, Reviews

Chris Cooper can sure play a good villain (creep is a more apt description of his character in ‘Breach’). The film, which was released on DVD Tuesday, takes a look at the turncoat Robert Hanssen who was spying for the Russian government in the biggest case of espionage in the United States’ history. Cooper plays Hanssen brilliantly, as you almost feel sorry for the man because he is so twisted.
Playing his counterpart, who doesn’t know what his assigned duty is until late in the film, is Ryan Phillippe. Phillippe plays FBI Eric O’Neill who doesn’t know what to make of Hanssen, but quickly learns there is more to Hanssen than his religious veneer. Phillippe turns in a fine performance playing alongside Hanssen. Laura Linney and Dennis Haysbert provide an excellent supporting cast.
Not only do you get an excellent movie in the DVD se, but also a ton of special features. The best is the NBC Dateline expose of Robert Hanssen done by Chris Hansen (who was a real reporter before entrapping pedophiles on the show). Also included is commentary by director Billy Ray and the real-life Eric O’Neill.
If “Silver Surfers” aren’t your thing, you should make it a point to watch this one this weekend. The movie is a must see if you like real-life drama. Screenhead rating: 3 1/2 out of 4
