Movie Critic Has Seen 7,714 (And Counting!) Movies
October 26th, 2007 in Movie News
David Ansen, a movie critic over at Newsweek, recently revealed his borderline-crazy obsession with movies: he’s watched exactly 7,714 films in his lifetime, not including ones he’s seen on television. Since the age of 12, Ansen has kept a detailed log of each and every film he has watched. Born in 1945, that makes him 62 years old, which means he’s been keeping track of his movie-watching for five whole decades. Crunching the numbers even further, that means he’s watched just over 154 movies per year, or slightly less than one every other day.
His impressive list of films spans 146 hand-written pages, and includes more than just a list of titles:
“I would list the title on the left, then add the last names of the stars, and then give each movie a rating: Poor, Fair, Good, Very Good, Excellent, Superior. My scoring system was taken from a long-defunct magazine called The Motion Picture Herald.”
Ansen, who has been a movie critic at Newsweek since 1977 feels luck to have turned his obssession into a profession. You can read his full confessional piece, which gives a great overview of the trends in movies over the years, over at Newsweek.
So, have any of you been keeping track of your movie-watching habits, and if so what’s your tally at so far?
